PROWLANDS:
Was that the Menin Gate border crossing Ian

It was some small frontier crossing in the middle of a wood with just a lifting barrier.
Don’t suppose I could find it now if I wanted to.I’ll check my maps to see if I can locate it again.

This Buffalo was one of a batch of 20 that were bought by Pandoro - all came with the L12 engine (203bhp) and 6-speed box.
There was a need for some lightweight tractors on the fleet (still 32T then of course) and the Atki Borderers that had previously
fitted the bill were being retired.

The Buffaloes were an unmitigated disaster - I do remember one day when 16 out of 20 were off the road for repair. They were
so bad that Leyland provided 4 brand new Marathon 2s, painted up, for about a year to compensate for the downtime on the
Buffaloes.
They were replaced after about two years by two batches of the newly-developed 32 ton version of the Seddon 300, and
which Pandoro were instrumental in developing.

The Buffalo in the picture was the only one shipped to Northern Ireland to work with these heavy tanks, and I believe the photo was
taken on the coast road near Larne. The tanks were on a round trip job between Pontypool and Kilroot for ICI Fibres.

Gardner ,
sorry for the late reply to your post,it wasn,t until today I realised ,Pandoro depot
is in Larne, the Buffalo is just comig out of the “Black Arch” in the direction of Larne, this is as you say on the Coast Road heading towards Glenarm,Kilroot is on the coast road about 5 miles in the other Direction,so if the trailer came into Larne where had he Been?(Ithink we need to speak to this driver in the office!)20 years later and found out! regards derek ,great pics by the way
