BuzzerCan anyone of you “eagle eyed” Lads tell me what make of trailer was coupled to the Dobson’s Borderer ? Cheers Bewick

I found this picture on the Bootle History Forum. It is September 1955, shortly before the trams ended
in Liverpool. I think the lorry on the right is a Bedford, the lorry near the tram is definitely a Ford Thames.
The tram on route 40 is on its way to Page Moss on the A57, in the Huyton area. The 2 cars near to the tram
are Ford 100E, either Anglia or Prefect. The suited gentlemans black car is a Rover, and the bus near the
bottom of James Street is an AEC from the late 1940s.
Cheers, Ray.

A nice picture Ray, but I can’t see the tram wires, was there a bloke at the back pushing it?

Thank you for your remark regarding the tram wires. Perhaps someone has erased them. When the trams passed under a bridge,
the trolley pole swung to the left because of the lack of space. The tram is about to head up James Street and the Ford Thames
is on the incoming track, making its way toward the Pier Head where most of the buses and trams reached their terminus.
Cheers, Ray.
If you click twice on the picture, the wires just show up. Can’t see the trolley-boom though, as that has probably swung into the shadow.

That’s obviously why I was right to retire, can’t see a thing.
Another thing, about hearing and ageing this time. I watched an old comedy program, ‘Ever Decreasing Circles’ the other night and the whole point of one scene was that whenever a vibration of the office desk occurred the telephone would give a little tinkle. I couldn’t hear it at all but worked it out from the action around it.

Talking of giving a little tinkle…
that F12 is a hefty bit of kit, double drive reduction hubs.
Just looking at these pics and wondering what the side overhang would have been if transporting standard ‘70s rolling stock on, say, a standard width low-loader. Did it stay within the 10’ limit?

This one just shows a wagon body. It doesn’t look much (if anything) wider than the trailer. Was it just the running boards and chassis clutter that stuck out? Anyone know the standard width of a BR wagon body?
