I fitted a few blower shafts in Commer TS3’s when I was an apprentice, nice sounding engine

The LAD Leyland mixer that has been ‘punched in the mouth’, would that be enough to make it a walk through cab, or is that just a counterbalance?

Any further info on the McKelvie Scammell pic? The trailer landing legs look unfamiliar.

I was wondering what that was about. I thought perhaps larger engine and hydraulic drive but the mixer has a donkey.

I don’t think that is a donkey engine but just a water tank, the exaust pipe is probably for the truck engine so as when on site it would not get damaged and I think that extended bonnet did house a hydraulic drive, that’s my opinion after studying the shot but someone with better knowledge will confirm what it is, Buzzer

I agree. But I think it is a clumsy design that appears, nevertheless, to have been quite nicely executed.

It is a hydraulic drive taken from the crank pulley, various makers like Fodens, Albion etc had similar systems but not usually as prominent as that one!

Not my pics.

Pete.

You are right, a water tank.

We had one on internal duties at our quarry, an ex Oxted Greystone Lime powder tanker, and the worst thing about it was the non tilting cab.

Seems odd to have designed the Ergomatic then offered a poverty spec set up. Perhaps, cost aside, there was a minor weight saving?

It’s a Power Take Off mounted on the front of the engine crankshaft taking drive to operate the hydraulic drums, AEC also had the same on their pre Ergo cabs. Franky.

The McKelvie Scammell is a Handyman MkI. Franky.
