Spardo,
Good afternoon,
You are correct about Ross Garages, they were based on Penarth Rd : in Cardiff,
As well as being haulage contractors they were agents for Atkinson and York trls: and I think the premises are now occupied by a Scania’ dealer, Keltruck I think.
Regards, Allan

Thank you, it is amazing what old (peoples’) memories drag up isn’t it? I have it in my memory that their livery was green and maybe had 8 wheelers in the fleet. But am I pushing my luck too far?
Spardo, Hello again
Iirc the livery was green with a red chassis and they probably did run eight wheelers.
I was a workshop apprentice in 1963 and one of the bosses where I worked was a big mate of Stan Ross.
A few years later I was a shunter at Port Talbot steelworks and by then they were running artics and I particularely remember a KV ERF shunting tractor
Cheers , Allan

Blimey, right again, seems the elderly brain is not so decrepit after all. Thanks Allan for that interesting information.

What’s the make & model of the car on last picture? Doesn’t look British. Thanks.

A Vauxhall. Model? Not sure. Wyvern? Velox? Possibly Cresta, but doubtful. I never thought much of them preferring the Ford competitors.

Vauxhall, the scalloped bonnet edges give it away. I would call it a Velox, but not sure.
Edit: Wyvern, just taken a magnifying glass to the model name on the wing.

From memory, I am fairly sure that this Vauxhall is a Vauxhall Velox. The Cresta and Wyvern were a bit more upmarket.
Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Just blown the picture up and it is definitely “Wyvern” on the front wing.

Zoom in on the building behind and there is a name Harald Furs. Possibly Norway?
