Think Showerings were from Zummerzet but may be wrong, Buzzer

Cider makers from Shepton Mallet and always big ERF users. Still around but I don’t know what they run now? They had the legend ‘Up from Zummerset’ written on their trucks!

Pete.

Hi Pete and John. Babysham a sparkling wine iirc was their headline drink. A little green bottle with a pony on it and a slogan it had a little kick in it! A drink for females.

Paul

Babycham is still available, however the brand is owned by an Australian company now. I remember their ERF four wheelers with four and five cylinder Gardner engines , sometimes with a ‘drag’ behind them, around the UK. The drivers were away for most of the week when delivering to Scotland. Pete

The label on the Babycham bottle depicts a young Chamois deer, hence the name. Back in the mists of time, when I delivered fruit to Shepton Mallet, they had a herd of Chamois in a field opposite the factory.

I had an argument with somebody a few years ago when the drink was popular Rof, they insisted that the ‘CHAM’ in the name meant Champagne but I knew it was the animal. I never did convince her, maybe she is reading this rubbish and then I might get an apology? As Maureen Lipman once said in a tv advert “everyone needs an ology”!

Pete.

I recall that in the early 60’s there was always about 5 or 6 or there abouts Babycham 4 wheeler ERF’s parked up in Kendal on a Sunday night en route to Scotland. Kendal was obviously as far they ran on a Sunday from Somerset. Then through the week there would be the odd one or two parked up on their way back home. IIRC they were always a Driver and mate on the ERF’s. Cheers Bewick.

One used to stop my neck of the woods, Leicestershire, Dennis. KV(?) Smart colours I thought as a kid.
A Babycham or two in the right lady used to do wonders  As the poet said" Candy’s dandy, but liquor’s quicker ! " Cheers Coomsey

Let me tell you from past experience, Babycham mixed with Brandy is not to be underestimated

It looks like Corgi did a decent model version of Showerings ERF’s, detailed even down to the trapdoor in the bed to access the worm and wheel differential.

with it’s sister drink Cherry B, happy days.

Hi John. Ross Garages were from Cardiff. They were haulage contractors and iirc became a service agent or dealer for Atkinson vehicles, based on Penarth Rd.

Ross Garages had a depot in Sheffield years ago, they were bought out by Humber McVeigh or Warehousing if I remember correctly.I remember picking one of their trunk drivers up somewhere around Ross/Monmouth area,it was around 0700,I’d had an early start from Sheffield. He had run out of time and left his Scania artic in a lay by and I dropped him somewhere on that 4 lane bit of road going into Cardiff, before the M4 was built.

One from Ireland a Scania 111 but looks like it has had a hard life, the Shell sign has never changed over the years has it, Buzzer.

Your right Chris Humbers depot was on Barrow road been used by a few transport firms over the years,my old mentor Rod Gibb rip drove there briefly before he put one through the barrier on Tinsley bridge one night. A few of the local characters worked there big money and new motors. The transport manager can’t remember his name was a bit of a rogue spent most of his time in the pub across the road the Foundry ?.Can’t remember them running Scanias had a fleet of new Atkis but memory is sometimes a bit hazy.Cheers.
