Must have been no fun to drive international trips with a Volvo F 86 without even a bunk!

Not as bad as when I first went abroad in a day cab Mandator with a great engine lump In between the seats but two boards cut to size resting on the window ledges and a 3" thick piece of foam and home made curtains we managed, when you are young you grabbed the opportunity to venture abroad and lots like me jumped at the chance, Buzzer
I did quite a few " Nights Out " in the early 1970s, mainly in Mk 1 & Mk 2 Day cab Atkinsons. I had a
piece of 4 inch thick foam, about 2 feet wide, and its length was exactly the length of the engine
cover in the cab, fore and aft. The foam was long enough for me because I am only 5ft 4"ins.
The home made curtains were held up with Bulldog clips. Later in the 70s/80s when I had my own lorries,
I did several nights away in a 16ton Ford D series, which had a 3 seater cab, which, when the gear stick
was in first gear position, the 3 seats produced a ■■■■■ bed, and again, curtains with Bulldog clips.
This Bedford KM which I had in 1979 was also a 3 seater cab, which provided a good bed.

Its been a mixed bag with HT, they took over Willenhall Radiators, they packed engines and did “just about when you need them” into the motor manufacturing plants, Armstrongs of Beverley & Mitchell Cotts owned them for a while. They distributed Honda motorcycles in the UK
I have delivered tyres into Honda to Howard Tenens warehouse

Think Showerings were from Zummerzet but may be wrong, Buzzer
Cider makers from Shepton Mallet and always big ERF users. Still around but I don’t know what they run now? They had the legend ‘Up from Zummerset’ written on their trucks!

Hi Pete and John. Babysham a sparkling wine iirc was their headline drink. A little green bottle with a pony on it and a slogan it had a little kick in it! A drink for females.

Babycham is still available, however the brand is owned by an Australian company now. I remember their ERF four wheelers with four and five cylinder Gardner engines , sometimes with a ‘drag’ behind them, around the UK. The drivers were away for most of the week when delivering to Scotland.
