Hello Bubbs, I think the Borderer originally belonged to Waughs of Newcastle, the reg no. GTY
is a North East prefix, I think the late Bob Greenlees had it new. It had a coach built sleeper when it came, but Bob had an accident on the A1 and wrecked it. When it came back it had a day cab. Regards Kev.
Hi Kev, IIRC It was one of Renners of Belford from new, A lad called Norman Gibson restored it, I gave him the Knights Head Badge plus a spare wheel carrier, He was a fitter at Dungaits at Hebron , Stay safe my friend, Regards Larry.
Hello again, thanks to Dean for the pic and the others who have commented, heres a few more clippings,Cheers Bubbs,

do you remember the motor I’m confusing it with? Bob was very lucky that day, the drink finally caught up with him. Regards Kev.
Hi Kev, I dont remember his moter But I remember Bob very well, He lived in the next street to me in Hazelrigg, He ended his days driving for Lowdons at Seaton Burn & serving petrol when things were quiet, As you said the drink got him in the end, He used to have two bottles of Brown Ale for breakfast I remember him getting breathelised sleeping in a lay bye heading south on the A1when a car ran into him,He didnt even know that it had happened until the Law woke him up, Still he was a canny lad to work with in those good old days Regards Larry.

Bubbleman, you put a post on April 6th which contained a pic of Brian Harris’ Scammell. I recognised this lorry as I knew Harris very well, in fact we were drinking buddies in our local. He damaged the front grille and bumper and couldn’t find replacements, but I found a grille (can’t remember where; it’s over 30 years ago) He made the bumper out of a piece of RSJ, of which he had plenty, being a scrap metal merchant!
Sadly Harris died very suddenly about 9 years ago, but his daughter and son still run the business, and his widow still lives in our village. When I saw the pic, I phoned his daughter and pointed it out to her. Very emotional moment, as you can imagine, as that is her Dad in the cab.
Apparently the lorry still exists, sold to " some Irish showmen in London" she believes, only a couple of years ago, and it has been seen at a couple of shows.
Just thought this might bring the old Scammell to life!
Cheers, Emmerson
