I loved those little Chieftains except that I would lie in bed at night and swear that I could still hear that four-pot knocking away beside me!
What year was new this truck ?

So you had the pleasure as well, Bewick! But you could have made sure the fog lamp was mounted on the correct side.Unless, of course, one of those incomparable BTS drivers had knocked the matching one off!
Two fog lights on all our lorries ! The earlier Chietains I drove were 4 pots, but I think this one was a " Super Six ".
Usually had about 50 drops round Manchester, and on this run,the luxury of just one pick up,about 7 tons of mixed chemicals from May & Baker at Barton Moss.
Yes,I had the " long hair & flairs " look for about a year,
,but it was 1972 !!
It was not easy on multi-drop with the constant mesh gearbox, and I lost count of the times I wacked my elbow on the back of the cab when selecting 5th,but very happy days all the same.
Regards John.

From memory ROF that shot was taken one Friday morning after it’s first Test in 1970 and all I can think of the fitter hadn’t had time to fit the n/s fog lamp because it did have two lamps on when it went into service, but don’t mention drivers as it had a right pair of Numptys behind the wheel in quick succession, but it was a great little motor 100% reliable while we ran it we used to put about 9ton on it but when it got plated I think the payload dropped to around 7/8ton,it did a lot of cap jobs and small drops so weight wasn’t a problem in the main.Cheers Bewick.
Totally agree- ours had 7-9 tons on it every day and never missed a beat. As you say, plating killed it somewhat and it was relegated to hay and straw ■■■■■■■ duties.

I bought this Albion off John McGuffie of Grange-over Sands and he had bought it off Brady’s of Barrow who in turn, apparently, had aquired it from a firm they had bought out in London,I think it had a London Reg. and was a 1966 “D” plate. It had an all Ali 20ft flat and what I would call a “cockney” headboard, but that is all I can tell you “Lilladan”,it was a coffee/brown colour IIRC when I got it and hadn’t been run by either Brady or McGuffie.Hope this answers your question.Cheers Bewick.
