Silly question; What happened to BRS? Sold off, divided up, renamed?
Hiya Nathan,Happy New Year mate, the origional BRS operation gradually withdrew from general haulage because they were unable to compete with private enterprise, they moved into Truck Rental and carried on with Contract Hire eventually the whole operation, including Pickfords and BRS Parcels were sold to the Management and group employees for,basically,1p in the £1.So it was a case of wey hey! fill your boots lads ! A good number of the former employees made a right [zb] killing when they were finally allowed to sell their shares, best of luck to them but the whole episode was a total rip off as far as the UK taxpayer was concerned. All the senior Board members were only interested in “bailing out” with their Loot as soon as was legally possible, which the greedy [zb] did !! Cheers Dennis.
Did no-one in Whitehall or Westminster remember the British Leyland fiasco?
Well spotted Marc yes it does look like WHJ183S I bought that 111 from Scantruc at Purfleet it had belonged to Coopers of Manningtree from new I then traded it in against a 142 in 1982 at Morville Trucks Lutterworth.

A lot of BRS truck rental places operate from Renault truck dealers these days, we leased 6 Volvo’s from them up until last year.

Never had much to do with Renaults but they did send one once as a replacement for a Volvo, The boss went nuts he phoned them up and told them to take “the heap of crap away and come back with a Volvo” ! It seemed ok to me but I wasn’t going to get to drive it .

I wonder where the Redland pearle “sludge Gulper” came from, its still used a lot today but was it a maunufacturers pet name
I think you’ll find it comes from Whale Tankers, we use to do a lot of work for them and they had pet name with a cartoon like drawing on them, for different tanks.
