There is a skip firm in Hereford owned by the Liveley family who used to run tippers under the name of Cunliffe & Liveley a few years back.
Don’t know if your photo is the same firm Marc,or another outfit.
Cheers Dave.

I have never seen a Comet with long doors either, The one I drove in the 60s a D reg was defo short doors, Regards Larry.
Hi Larry Like you say all LAD cabbed comets had the short door plus all LAD cabbed leylands Comet/Beaver/Octopus etc had the deep bumper has in this picture.Plus its the wrong type fuel tank for a comet.

Evening all, beautiful little lorry…makes me feel old…reminds me how proud I was in the 60s, with a 4LK powered Foden box, and how I dressed her up!
That youngster could rope and sheet well, look at his dollies! Cheerio for now,
The young Carpenter lads learned to rope & sheet their prams- bit like most of us in those days!

Love the D series with the 70s style bling, my guess it was the young lad on the fleet who reallllllyyyy wanted a Class1

A cross at the front of the load would have got 10/10.

I thought the same and I’m not a bling fan. That Carpenters’ one looks Australian inspired to me. Used to go past tjeir yard on occasions and their wagons seem older than most but are in very good condition.
I was asked once what Iceland used to be called. After giving up I was told “BEJAM”
I assume this one never made it onto the road.
Cheers Phil.
Apologies in advance of my poor ‘50s era truck knowledge, but that Barons’ cab reminds me of a Commer Superpoise.
…Or something similar.
Hi again,great pics Phil…what the f**k is a Baron…looks like a Dodge to me…ok heres a few from me,Cheers Bubbs,
Silly question; What happened to BRS? Sold off, divided up, renamed?
Re- Baron I belive they were an export only job, remember seeing one at the Commercial Motor Show,Earls Court mid sixties or thereabouts (may have been the only one made ?)
Trying to rember wno made the cab same as used on Commer & Dodges was it Airflow Streamlines or Pressed Steel ? don’t think it was Motor Panels deffo wasn’t Briggs!
Re Baron A company from Boreham Wood that made a few from 1959 --69 approx I think most went for export. I understand most were packed for export CKD at a factory in Northampton (Airflow Streamlines??)
This was followed by a 'British" Dodge with a Perkins engine in 1938. Production reduced during the War and production switched to Aircraft. In 1945 truck production resumed with the old models being joined by a new 6 tonne Major lorry, with either Petrol (gasoline) or Diesel engine options.
A new 100-series was introduced in 1949. These used a Briggs cab which was also used by the Leyland Comet and Ford Thames ET6, Nickname the “parrot nose” on account of the beak like shape. The Dodge 7 tonner was added in 1953 with a Perkins R6 engine.

Silly question; What happened to BRS? Sold off, divided up, renamed?
Hiya Nathan,Happy New Year mate, the origional BRS operation gradually withdrew from general haulage because they were unable to compete with private enterprise, they moved into Truck Rental and carried on with Contract Hire eventually the whole operation, including Pickfords and BRS Parcels were sold to the Management and group employees for,basically,1p in the £1.So it was a case of wey hey! fill your boots lads ! A good number of the former employees made a right ■■■■■■■ killing when they were finally allowed to sell their shares, best of luck to them but the whole episode was a total rip off as far as the UK taxpayer was concerned. All the senior Board members were only interested in “bailing out” with their Loot as soon as was legally possible, which the greedy ■■■■■■■■ did !! Cheers Dennis.
Hope you dont mind me hi-jacking your thread Marcus.
Just playing with my new scanner, thought i’d show some of my stuff…

Numbum:
I was asked once what Iceland used to be called. After giving up I was told “BEJAM”Hi numbum, Bejam were a smashing company, ran from Milton Keynes, but originally from London. Pioneers of retail Freezer Centres, mainly in the South of England. I remember a particularly nice one in Chesham, Bucks,
They were taken over by Iceland, mid 80s, (?). Ran DAFs, and Renaults, Soloman, Cherau, Lamberet, and Gray and ADAMS. Really superb operation, that it has to be said became less efficient under Iceland!
Cheerio for now.
