That P&O tilt pictured coming off the boat, new in 83?, was of a batch still being used in 2005 when I was doing P&O traction, used to hate the bloody things, stripouts were a nightmare the level of maintenance left a lot to be desired.

I have a colour photo some where of the DAF 95 H703 WAT when i drove it for Pig inprovementAttachments company after they took over NPD

Remember seeing that old girl in spain early 90’s many a time normally parked at Freds!
Seem to remember it went up for auction sround 1993 when Osborne got rid of her. Anyone know if she is still about?

ron osborne went bust that is why she went to auction,
i drove her and wanted her when he went bust , but its a long story why he had to send her to auction.
friday i would leave rotherham load part load at leeds , then to MK to top up ,sunday at Freds for dinner, tip monday load and back home for , turn round friday ,500 bhp lhd

Must have had dinner with ya then Turps. Went on the ■■■■ one sunday evening with the boy who drove her, i was on McKellars at the time. Don’t think we ended up in a Baghouse though!!!
Was a long time ago though

Turps, Was that the TopShop/Dorothy Perkins job? Used to load Bracknell as well IIRC :grimacing:

Hi Bubbs

I can remember Hoyners very well! The firm I started with ( Andrews ) had mostly those - mainly because nobody else wanted them! They were quite easy to work with provided you remembered to take off the red line and release the handbrake on the unit when you were tipping or else you had a LOT of shovelling to do… :open_mouth:

Can you remember these beauties? I can remember waiting very impatiently for these to arrive on the newstands and then reading them from cover to cover at least half a dozen times… Sad innit?

I came across them while hunting down the Christmas deccies and thought I would chuck them on here for someone’s enjoyment… I can scan some pages if necessary but it is a bit of a caddle for a technophobe like me - let me know, eh?

EXCELLENT PISTON BROKE, i remember super truck and would love you to scan them ,best start a new thread though .
They really had some smart stuff from around the globe didnt they, regs ALAN

The Big J8 is a class motor,I wonder what engine it would have had under the bonnet,Gardner 150 or maybe a 180,but maybe a ■■■■■■■ 180? but not an AEC505,I hope !!! I see it is a single drive rear axle so it must just operated on “the hard” ? Great shot though,I wish I could climb behind the wheel for a few mile eh! Cheers Bewick.

Looks like a Gardner badge on the grill Dennis, Regards Larry.

Aye Bonny lad,ah div gah to Specsavers as well ■■■■ it!!! We had some of those later Gardner badges on our motors, anyway, overlooking my blindness regarding the ■■■■■■■ engine, would it have had a 150 or a 180 Gardner, what do you reckon Larry, hic! hic! Cheers Dennis.

I would go for the 150 Dennis , Regards Larry.PS, No hic hics for me im having a whiskey free night, I had more than my quota last night, in fact I had to have help getting upstairs when I got home.

If your not fit to get yourself to bed sensible like after a session Larry i’ts time to either “cut back” or call it “a day”,then on the other hand just lay down in the garage and sleep it off a bit, then re-surface later as if nowt was amiss ( done it a few times eh!) Cheers Dennis.PS I think you are right Larry about the 150,I recall a nice tidy F reg Big J8 belonging to Gulf Oil that delivered 17/18,000 loads of derv to us in the mid 70’s and it had the 150 engine.

I can well remember that Guy and the Foden still earning a crust for Reads… They were far, far tidier than the pics suggest too… Someone will correct me if I’m wrong but I’m sure that both of them had a very long life hauling from the Mendips - at least until the mid eighties… I think the Foden went on until the late eighties and was replaced with a brand new one. I seem to recall a father and son driving them - I guess the father had the Guy because she was parked up when he retired, I think!! Twas a long time ago!!

A 150 Gardner sounds right to me because she was awful slow - uphill, on the flat or downhill! :open_mouth:

Thanks for that Gen Piston, what sort of distances did those Mendip hauliers cover,IIRC you used to see them up around London in the 60’s/70’s,Cheers Bewick.

Hi Dennis

Yes mate, they used to cover the Home Counties quite a lot…

If you imagine a line along the M4 and continuing straight through the Smoke - anywhere south of the line is where the Mendip boys could end up. Sometimes there was the occasional job above the line but only if one of their customers requested them. Us fella’s up here usually did north of the M4 up to Worcester and across to Milton Keynes-ish…

All local crap now though - no distance work any more…

All the best Marcus and all Trucknet members

best wishes Johnnie

That F88 was still running around about 8,10 years ago. Not much room for the diesel tank on there.

That F88 is a G88 and used to do containers from Immingham not so long ago.

Maybe the fuel tank is in the home made spoiler :stuck_out_tongue:

It was owned by a named frank bradley from wrawby (near brigg) lincs. used to be parked at the garage in the village at night. He ran it for years and years i think pulling for d.f.d.s out of immingham

Hey wheelnut if it was a G88 its been turned back to a f88 again as its got steps infront of the mudguards.
maybe is because its a day cab it looks odd or evan the extra axle.
John

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for GAT 918N are:

Date of Liability 01 01 2008
Date of First Registration 01 11 1974
Year of Manufacture 1974
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 0CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Export
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BEIGE

It seems we will never find out as it has gone for export. :frowning:

Hmm, do you think there is some bespoke engineering going on there. The 2nd axle is certainly an add on, is it possible that a G88 had to be re-engineered and the steps moved to the front using a donor vehicle.

Answers please, someone must have driven it or worked on it :open_mouth:

that f88 just won oldest working truck in Ireland
