Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Lots of container lads will have loaded here in the past, it’s sad to see the state of the place now.

I used to pick up parts for overnight delivery from here. One of my first driving jobs in the 80s

Hello again, nice stuff norfolktrucker…keep them coming mate, more clippings today,Cheers Bubbs,

Ill bet the driver that got the 1619 was chuffed to [zb]

Yes Norfolktrucker I agree with Bubbleman. I especially like the Nelson Wright’s Seddon, I had one just like it at Perfects many years ago complete with illuminated headboard, a real good looker. Also I reckon that Atlanta Freight motor was tipping onto a supply ship in West Hornsby Dock Liverpool, probably for the “Ensco 80”. Correct me if I’m wrong! Cheers Haddy.

Good old crompton marine by any chance?. I worked in the Colville road pit when i left school and our unit was just up from theirs. They made some superb boats there. Very quick and could carry a three ton payload, very usefull for express deliveries

Hello again, heres todays bunch…a nice red and rust for my pal Harry to start with    ,Cheers Bubbs,

hiya,
Well Marc you’ve done it again given me the Monday blues, the
Scania 80 looks like i’ts being used in some sort of competition
possibly “driver of the year” maybe, something I wouldn’t have
been good enough to enter even if I could have been bothered.
When I was away from the yard I could always find something
better to do than drive a bleedin’ 80 thingy for fun
thanks harry, long retired.

bubbleman the scania 80 was at the lorry driver of the year competion it was driven by phil symonds from swansea branch he actually became lorry driver of the year, it was a swansea motor pulling a bridgend branch trailer as bridgend had a driving school where the training for the compition was done, i worked at bridgend branch as a fitter then driver all the best alan.

robroy:
Hiya kindle, it was the M500 DAF reg that caught my eye, but I now am also not 100% sure, maybe if somebody has a photo of the motor in the blue livery it will decide it, but hey, you may be right.

eh up!it would be interesting to find out the history mate, one way or the other!

Heres todays stuff,Cheers Bubbs,

hiya,
Just had a look at Harry Nuttall’s of Heywood there Moomooland, see they took over Holdsworth of Rochdale the third and fourth pics show two of their motors both of which i drove for a short while in the early 60s the Thames Trader still in Holdsworth’s colours by the looks of it (green) reg no VDK 958 and the other the ERFin the foreground in pic 4 is 3778 DK looks like that is painted in Nutty’s colours, often wondered what happened to Holdsworth’s, canny little 4 motor outfit who always paid well and i enjoyed my spell there only left because i was young and had only driven much bigger stuff and wanted to get back amongst that work with a bit more variety.
thanks harry long retired.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but have just been searching online and came across harry’s post.

I’ve just discovered a family connection with holdsworths, Tom lawless (great uncle) became a partner at some stage with them, and Alan Lawless (great uncle) drove for them. I think they both moved to Harry nuttalls, and my dad worked for Harry and later James Nuttal with me working for Jim Nutts in the 90’s

Here is a pic of 3778DK I have just been given by Tom’s daughter in law showing Alan Lawless:

hiya,
What a cracking pic to jog the memory I remember Alan and Tom well, Alan
left Holdsworths soon after getting married to be home more, Tom’s partner
in the business was Eddie Ashurst, Alan being the senior driver got the ERF in
the picture and I got Alans hand me down it was one of the few times in my
driving career that I’d driven a four wheeler, I drove the motor on a couple
of occasions but only for loading,I never took it up the road a lad called Jack
Love got it after Alan left, are Alan or Tom still about they will be a great age
I remember Tom had a passion for the greyhound racing at one time, thanks
for the pic Dazzer you’ve made my day, happy days.

Hi again,Dennis…How about the “fastest couple up” a Le Mans sprint to the wagon and get coupled together…last one gets the teas in,I think poor old Harry would be last…the climb up into the lorry would probably take all of his time
