Muckaway:
What happened to Roger Constants? Were they taken over or did they just wither away like J.Curtis?

They sold out.

Im liking that Godfrey Davis D series, be good if anyone has a colour pic of it.
Looks as though it was six wheel drive be good to know some more about it.

Hi Roadcommander
Looking at the front hubs I sure its only a 6x4 but a tipper or mixer chassis with high ground clearance.
Nearly all had red doors but some had royal blue which this one may have had.
Cheers Rich

Hi Rich,

Ive put my specs on and had another look at the pic and I think you are right in thinking its a 6x4.
They would probably have mentioned in the caption if it had a driven front axle, although I know both NAM and County did conversions.

I seem to remember that the Ford truck dealers had red doors and Ford car dealers had blue doors on their vehicles but I dont know if it was a hard and fast rule.

Cheers
Mark

That F88 was still running around about 8,10 years ago. Not much room for the diesel tank on there.

That F88 is a G88 and used to do containers from Immingham not so long ago.

Maybe the fuel tank is in the home made spoiler :stuck_out_tongue:

It was owned by a named frank bradley from wrawby (near brigg) lincs. used to be parked at the garage in the village at night. He ran it for years and years i think pulling for d.f.d.s out of immingham

Hey wheelnut if it was a G88 its been turned back to a f88 again as its got steps infront of the mudguards.
maybe is because its a day cab it looks odd or evan the extra axle.
John

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for GAT 918N are:

Date of Liability 01 01 2008
Date of First Registration 01 11 1974
Year of Manufacture 1974
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 0CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Export
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BEIGE

It seems we will never find out as it has gone for export. :frowning:

Hmm, do you think there is some bespoke engineering going on there. The 2nd axle is certainly an add on, is it possible that a G88 had to be re-engineered and the steps moved to the front using a donor vehicle.

Answers please, someone must have driven it or worked on it :open_mouth:

GAT 918N was a volvo f88 that worked until 2007/8 pulling containers, the owner had uprated it over the years adding the mid axle and i read that the cab was a cut down sleeper cab,if you look at the top rear its a square cut rather than the natural curve.Think it run from hull? used to pass it regularly when over that way.Got a few pics of it in hartshead moor and birch services.

It was for sale on ebay when the guy retired it,think it said it was serviced at John Hebb i think E Yorkshire somewhere.

Didnt seem to sell at the time, appeared a few times then it appeared again on ebay from a different seller further south.Guess thats where it got exported from.

hope that helps

img635.jpg Bubbs, if I’m not mistaken this was the first 500 ■■■■■■■ powered DAF in the UK, it was bought new by David Sisson from ■■■■■■■ who used it on Euro traction for Curries of Dumfries, David died young about 40, and as far as I remember his wife sold the motor on after it stood for weeks in Phillips Transport yard at ■■■■■■■■ Has anybody got a pic of it in David’s colours?

David bought it to replace this.

Lots of container lads will have loaded here in the past, it’s sad to see the state of the place now.

David bought it to replace this.

im pretty sure Morrison Freight bought that 500 brand new from Chassis Cab, the local Daf dealer (im not 100% sure on that but am very confident they did, as they had a very good relationship with each other).
It was a good motor, MF were very happy with it, it never missed a heartbeat while they had it.
I was among 2 or 3 drivers offered it when the original driver left, i said yes i would love a left ■■■■■■ and would love to drive it, but i hadnt driven a left ■■■■■■ before, they said as it was a flagship motor,(and 95% of the fleet were 85cf’s with Hatcher roof extensions) they wanted someone who had driven left hookers before, so unfortunatly i never got to drive it. (Morrison Freight at the time did groupage work to Germany)

Hiya kindle, it was the M500 DAF reg that caught my eye, but I now am also not 100% sure, maybe if somebody has a photo of the motor in the blue livery it will decide it, but hey, you may be right.

Hi again lads, great pics norfolktrucker…excellent!,heres todays stuff from me.Cheers Bubbs,
