Well done, Steve, good on ya… Thats great

I guess you sold quite a few of the grey and blacks to James, and probably quite a few more that I will recognise or have even driven… Does ‘Jeff Hughes’ ring any bells with you?

Yep sold him a FL7 6x4 in ARC colours photo on its way to bubbs Steve.
Thought you might know him…
That lorry is still going today - owned by James, driven by George, funnily enough…
Cracking motor…

paul ,also spent many an evening in John Hatheralls kitchen drinking tea, hours in sodbury quarry ,those were the days,if you go to the CVRTC meetings at keynsham, make you self known to my mate Adrian Cypher ,Steve.
Apologies for posting a brand new motor, but this is Smiths’ very first MAN tractor unit (with Wilcox trailer) taken today, it’s first day in service.
I’ve spent a little time in Sodbury too, still do in fact
I’ve had the invite from Bubbs - I just need to sort a babysitter and I’ll be there! Quite looking forward to it but I’ll probably stand back and just let it happen around me for a while - unless I see a familiar face of course
I need to talk to Rod Bond and drag him along too…

Give Rod my regards ,he will remember me from westwards and also as the founder of TRUCKEX ,Steve.
I certainly will, Steve.
Interesting that you are the founder of Truckex - our paths have probably crossed on more than one occasion then Good days at the Duke of Gloucester barracks…

Good days at the Duke of Gloucester barracks…
what motors did you bring ,i was the guy in the TRUCKEX CONTROL van, remember Ivan keeping with the foden and then the FH,it was the first showing of the FH in england, second only to scotland ,Steve.
I was driving for Rod at the time. I drove the old Dodge six wheeler for 7 years from new… I can’t remember now if we were at the very first Truckex but I know we did a few of them at The Duke of Gloucester and didn’t you then move to Wroughton? I went up there for one or two shows as well…

I started it at the swindon truckstop in i think 88 and then to wroughton then to South Cerney, you must have known Brian Holder who i used to load when i worked for Bradleys .Steve.
My first memory of Brian is when four of us were walking home from school at the end of term, somewhere around the late seventies. We used to get let out early on the last day but the coach would never be there til 4pm because of other contracts. We were halfway up Tog Hill, right by the cottages, when Brian came trundling up in his 4 wheeled Commando. I stuck my thumb out and waved out at him and he stopped! 5 of us in his cab and he took us back to Marshfield…
I only see him very occasionally now but he is a great fella. Still doing his bit as well, I believe

That looks like the same dog as on the old Albion photo in our yard!!!.Heres two of my last motors just before i retired, the MAN was the last one i had,a big let down after the Scania, and something you won’t see much of now (snow)1
Hiya Vic, ok I,ll put them on the Forth thread and yes it would be the dog I think, it was still alive when we closed, cant remember if there were two dogs to be honest DennisR

They were taken in the good times Paul, thanks for sharing them mate

After I left the Harris twins, I had a short spell on the brewery drays. Bloody hard work but a bloody good craic… About 6 months into that, I started getting lots of phone calls from a guy, who I only knew by sight and reputation, about going to work for him… He was a complete pain in the arse, especially because I let him stew for a couple of months, but eventually I gave in…
It very quickly turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made and one of the happiest times of my working life… A brilliant boss - hard but very fair - with a lovely family. I was treated like a son all the time I was there…especially by their three daughters, which was a nuisance cos they were all gorgeous!
I started out in the yard and doing local stuff with this little beauty… 10 tonnes gross and could legally carry 6.200! A far better earner than the big stuff…
Jeff Hughes also had a couple of these. This one was driven by his longest serving driver and did all manner of work, mostly local but all of it hard on the truck. A good, strong and reliable lorry, thankfully fitted with a Jake…
One for shakysteve… In March or April of '95 ( I think…) Jeff put this FL7 on the road. Contracted to ARC, it went through a few drivers in it’s time but it has proved to be a brilliant lorry. It is still earning a crust today - strangely enough for the Harris’s…
