I was at Darlington when Cookies took us over and we took the steel contract over at Lackenby and got one of Consetts old Scammels with the old Scammel gate change only there was no gate in the cab it had been removed, what a bugger to work the gears out at first, my reg was 800D cant remember the letters, the gearbox blew out of it when I was passing Pickfords in Leeds and that was the last I saw of it, I then got a Seddon HUP669H they eventually sent that back to Consett and gave me an old Atkinson and the reg was 5F again cant remember the letters, I had that until we came under Road services Tyne Tees name and I got a new Big J guy, we were made redundant in 1975 and I went to Bass on the drays Dennis Blades

Hiya guys , yes 669H did pull like a train , I passed the chief mechanic from Consett called George something cant remember his second name going down the A1 fully loaded and passed him like he was standing still, I got a bit of a bollocking when I got back from that trip off the boss I think it was still Les Boyd, anyway shortly after that they took it off me and it went back to Consett and they gave me a right load of crap an old Atkinson reg ended 5F, you had to spray easy start into air intake which was in the passenger side if I remember correctly, bloody freezing in all weathers it was, glad when we went over to Tyne Tees and got some new motors but 669 went like s–t off a stick

Cheers Bubbs,

yes they are!!! any idea where this was taken? keep them coming, love the c b morgan picture, another company sadly no longer with us

Hi, I’m new to trucknet, great thread.
Yes, sadly Morgan’s shut down in 2008 after 75 years in business. I used to go with my uncles in school holidays
during early 70’s when he drove such vehicles as Albion Reiver XRV 203, Leyland Mastiff BYA 264J, Merc 2419 XYD 825S, Merc 2421 LOT 998Y, ERF E8 G374 VCR. I remember the MAN unit being a demonstrator on their stand at Truckfest, Peterborough when it first appeared. Morgan’s already had two F90’s on order, D401 NYD and D402 NYD, but they did’nt arrive in time for Truckfest and by coincidence they later ran this lorry in their fleet.

This is my first motor with Forth late 69 or early 70 in some long forgotten transport cafe with Charlie Bailey, DennisR

You got the photo on ok,nice one from all those years ago,and knowing Charlie and yourself you both look like your off out for a pint or two!!! Vic. Heres another motor you will remember GMS 529 D.

Hi Vic looks like this might loaded with plate out of Whessoe for one of their sites DennisR

Here,s another load out of whessoe but loaded with site gear, DennisR

Here,s another shot at Whessoe with my dad and Charlie Bailey, DennisR

Welcome to TN! Morgan’s were a real favourite of mine, I photographed their trucks wherever I could, and visited their yard on a lovely sunny day around 1986 and got most of the fleet, and captured a few on Weymouth quay the morning after the hurricane in 87. I got friendly with a chap called Les who drove Hilltop Highwayman and sent him some of the photos I had taken of his truck. A good few years later I was going to pop into the yard and ask if I could photograph what was there, there was a lovely Scania with cattle trailer on being washed, and for some reason I lost my nerve and didn’t, regret it now as a couple of years later they closed without me updating my pictures.

Some more play time pics…

Hiya Vic here,s a couple of my Big J I had this till they closed the depot I think, DennisR

Here,s another one, DennisR
