I remember the Hughes Atkinson. Funny you should mention being headhunted, Paul; I’ve been asked if I want to work for a small local haulier/contractor. “We want someone who wont rush about…” said the bosses’ son this morning. His Dad’s retiring at Xmas and wants a driver for his immaculate 8w Daf.
…Seriously considering it as I like the “wont rush about” bit.

yes they are!!! any idea where this was taken? keep them coming, love the c b morgan picture, another company sadly no longer with us
Hi, I’m new to trucknet, great thread.
Yes, sadly Morgan’s shut down in 2008 after 75 years in business. I used to go with my uncles in school holidays
during early 70’s when he drove such vehicles as Albion Reiver XRV 203, Leyland Mastiff BYA 264J, Merc 2419 XYD 825S, Merc 2421 LOT 998Y, ERF E8 G374 VCR. I remember the MAN unit being a demonstrator on their stand at Truckfest, Peterborough when it first appeared. Morgan’s already had two F90’s on order, D401 NYD and D402 NYD, but they did’nt arrive in time for Truckfest and by coincidence they later ran this lorry in their fleet.Welcome to TN! Morgan’s were a real favourite of mine, I photographed their trucks wherever I could, and visited their yard on a lovely sunny day around 1986 and got most of the fleet, and captured a few on Weymouth quay the morning after the hurricane in 87. I got friendly with a chap called Les who drove Hilltop Highwayman and sent him some of the photos I had taken of his truck. A good few years later I was going to pop into the yard and ask if I could photograph what was there, there was a lovely Scania with cattle trailer on being washed, and for some reason I lost my nerve and didn’t, regret it now as a couple of years later they closed without me updating my pictures.
Hi Diesel, thanks for the reply, The original Hilltop Highwayman was D402 NYD, which was driven from new by Nick Hardiman, who is the manager, David Hardiman’s son. He now runs Hardiman Haulage from Shaftesbury. I don’t know a driver called Les, what was his truck at the time? The Scania you mentioned was probably R181 UYA which was new to Dave Randall and was replaced by a new Y reg MAN. My brother and I have a large collection of photos from over the years, sadly not many of the older ones. Who did you drive for
Hello again lads,As Shakeysteve said in an earlier post,he’s sent me some pics for all of us to see of some of the Volvos he sold when he worked for Westwards.I’ll put them on in small bunches,Cheers Bubbs,
Hey Bubbs
Thanks for taking the time to put them up - and thanks to Shakysteve for taking the time to send them for us to enjoy - great pics
There’s quite a few I recognise and a few I’ve driven… the Harris’s FL6 obviously and the ARC liveried FL7 which I drove for a while…
John Hatherall’s FL10 was driven new by Pete Smith, both great guys. I’ve shared a few giggles with those two…
Elliott’s were frequent visitors to the quarries around here. Their trucks always looked smart, even when filthy… Are they still going? I seem to remember someone telling me they had finished…
Seems to be the same for most of the firms in those pics…
Yep, I recognise most of 'em, Bubbs
The line up of C&R FL10’s is intriguing… I do remember them and I’m hoping someone can confirm or deny something I was told a long time ago… The ‘C’ of C&R is Mick Collier, who ran a small fleet of pale green bulkers from Chippenham years ago. I certainly remember A series and B series ERF’s… I was also told that C&R morphed into JJ&S Transport who shared the same colour scheme and are based in Calne, I believe…

Brian Elliott is still going Paul. I don’t think there is a Elliott Bros any more.
Elliotts of Cheltenham have/had some wagons painted red recently. I’d heard they’d finished or had gone b*st.
The Roberts 4w I remember seeing in Johnsons at Wooton Bassett.
Does anyone have any pics of their motors? They had some FL7 (240 I think) 8wheelers with alloy bodies that carried over 21t but by Christ were they slow! They had some 6w Constructors that carried 17.5t, unbelievable nowadays. They did a lot of block paving so the white cabbed wagons were had JA (Johnson Aggregates) written in orange.
They still operate without trucks out of Wooton Bassett sidings but act as a handling agent for Agg Industries.
There used to be a T45 cabbed Leyland Constructor 8wheeler based in their yard belonging to AL Buchannon; It was always parked up when I went down there!
