Another milestone reached Marcus.

A great shot from a memorable era that oozes London suburbia with the mock tudor facings to the houses in the background. Note the Vauxhall Victor appearing from the right. You needn’t worry about extended warranty in those days for that car - they rusted out for a past-time!

This S18 MkII of H. Cox & Sons (Plant Hire) Ltd dates from September 1956, the location being the junction of the A1 / A406 in Finchley, north London.
The load being carried in this July 1959 Arthur Ingram view which appears in Foden Special Vehicles is a Ruston Bucyrus 10-RB skimmer. The 10-RB first went into production in 1934 and was a popular machine with builders and contractors. It remained in production until 1969 by which time 7625 examples had left the manufacturer’s Lincoln plant. (Roundoak/Ingram archive)

Great pic of the 10RB. Bit odd to carry it crosscarriage like that…maybe he wasn’t going very far.
Isn’t it a rope operated back acter rather than a skimmer? Please don’t shout at me if I’m wrong!!

The 10RB was a ■■■■■ to steer accurately it had a handwheel on the left which you turned forwards or backwards to lock the left or right track it was easier to carry them cross carridge than try to spragg them on a trailer bed and you wouldn’t want to knock the back wheels out , also the tracks wern’t very long so that you didn’t have to notify the move it does loock like a back acter bucket some machines used the skimmer boom with a dipper fitted especially if they had a adjustable A frame as does this machine (clear as mud aint it)
