Is this what you normally see on the A82 ?, do they normally use an eight wheeler unit ?
It was posted elsewhere today and seemingly when the photographer asked what was on board a military cop said “well it ain’t ■■■■■■■ heather” .
You’ll probably find the truck is carrying a couple of buckets of instant sunshine.[emoji6]
Its a nuclear convoy .
Theres another thread on here recently about them
I would say it wasn’t nucleur to be honest!! Usually large police ■■■■■■ for that and other unsavoury stuff!! I may be wrong though!!!

Fire engine ,Police car with blue lights on and a few passenger vans behind in the pic !
Looks like a nuke convoy.
They do practice…
Weirdly, that looks like it’s going southbound. Must be waste. Whatever you do, for ■■■■ sake don’t tell CND/Greenpeace, etc
Passed this convoy going southbound on the A1 near Boroughbridge about 10 minutes ago.
A82 you say. My guess is that’ll be coming from Faslane, the nuclear sub base.

Yes, the A817 and onto the A82 would be the normal route from Coulport.
The A817 and road from Garelochhead to Coulport were built by the MOD so these convoys could avoid the local roads through towns and villages.
The eight wheel unbadged Mercedes units are used exclusively for the nuclear warhead convoys, they replaced similar Fodens.

Coulport actually, that’s where the warheads are stored and loaded onto the submarines.

Into the submarines one would hope…

Just because you couldn’t see the ■■■■■■, doesn’t mean they weren’t there Not everybody is in uniform!!
Why do they de-badge the trucks? Wonder what the reason is for that.
Loose lips lose ships.

It used to be run by the RAF
RAF wagons with RAF drivers.
The wagon had an RAF driver and an armed RAF Policeman in the passenger seat.
RAF Police manned the police cars and RAF Firemen manned the fire engines.
Royal Marines act as convoy guard and they are in the vans with spare drivers.
RAF Police provide motorcycle outriders when required.
Used to be as they passed through a units area i.e. up the A1 North passing Catterick as they passed through the area of responsibility the unit would provide additional guards on standby in case of incidents.
The wagon and drivers used to live at an RAF Station next to the A1 not sure if they are still there
