Why do they de-badge the trucks? Wonder what the reason is for that.

Maybe the manufacturer did it
The RAF never debagged the Fodens and before that the Ergo cabbed and Sed Atki’s they had

Looks as though it’s now run by the Special ■■■■■■ Group and Royal Marines

I’ve met some dirty b*^&%&*s in my time, but ‘debagging a lorry’

Surely as we’re all ex SAS here the answer is obvious. Shape, shadow, silhouette and SHINE. Shine is your enemy, that’s why the badges come off. Granted a 44 tonne truck hauling nukes will never be able to hide behind a post box, but every little helps.

It used to be run by the RAF

Actualy not correct it has always been a tri service unit ( it is an established unit and a posting rather than an attachment) with alternating CO’s between all the services. Its one of the few postings you cant ask for, rather they pick you. Lots of information out there on the internet, some totally wrong and misleading. but rest assured if you don’t have an explempary military record you wont get posted to this unit.

Sorry Rikki, but I think you’ll find it was run by the RAF, ASU at RAF Wittering.

Convoy took place on 10th March and those of you that know the area it’s an extremely weird route they are taking, is this their normal route to perhaps stay away from high population areas? I take it they are coming up the A1 then M9 then A811? Bloody long way for a short way

and if the stuff they are carrying goes off I think shine will be the least of your worries .

There was a fairly lengthy closure on A82 at Dumbarton a few days ago, think the M8 was gubbed too, so that was probably their alternative route if it coincided with that. Prob M74, M73, M80, M9.

Coming off M9 @ J10, and heading for A811 goes through very little ‘residential’ areas (in fact, none that I can recall) despite what these clowns say, other than a couple of houses, farms, and 2/3 small villages along the A811, you wouldn’t hit anything residential until Balloch - a lot less congestion to deal with too, it’s actually a better route than taking the bloody things all the way through Glasgow and up the A82, IMO.

That’s my normal route in to that area when on my hols.
Keeps you away from Glasgow.

Just a couple of small Hamlets on the road to Balloch.
And the transit time through Balloch 2 or 3 mins at most.
Lovely in a car. A couple of tight spots in the convoy units.
