Christ. That guy must have had one hell of a paper round…
Seems a tad harsh.

Yes, they could have all drowned but none of em did. If it had panned out he probably would have been praised for getting the kids to school. All seems a bit coulda, woulda, shoulda. Not sure I wouldn’t rather my taxes were spent on keeping someone else in jail. 12 month ban and a fine was all it needed.
is it just me or is getting the jail a bit media based pc ott??
He made an error of judgment, but he was just trying his best to get his job done. Nobody was killed or even hurt. A year in prison is ridiculous.

what harry monk said sums it up nicely,…unless.they didnt mention if he was in the back of the bus giving them len fairclough type swimming lessons…
just looks like he wasnt a steering wheel attendant…trying to get the job done, and his day just went from bad to worse…he could have just turned around and went back to base, then left it up to someone else with a wessex helicopter to get them home…
According to news report I saw on telly yesterday he ignored 2 ‘road ahead closed’ signs. Also a passenger asked why he had passed the recent sign■■?
Only quoting what I saw on BBC news yesterday
Also mentioned he was a qualified HGV driver which was totally irrelevant
Didn’t know Alan Titchmarsh had got his P.S.V.
A year in nick is harsh considering the likes of burglars and muggers et al generally just get a slap on the wrist but I suppose the judge was placing a heavy factor in his summing up of this guy was responsible for the welfare of a bunch of kids and also ignored two ‘road ahead closed’ signs and the jail time was more about what ‘could’ have gone horribly wrong, rather than what actually went wrong.

I wouldn’t like to be sent to prison on the grounds that I could have sold somebody a kilogram of heroin today when I actually didn’t.
When I was a kid that would be a great adventure I could proudly brag about for years… The kids where offered counciling ffs
Yer the guy dropped a clanger, suspension of his psv fine, but jail… Ridiculous
Typical another so called professional thinking he knows better.Maybe they would be better putting him off the road forever.
2 many think they know better and that’s what leads to all the carnage.Pity they could not catch more of these brainless morons and get them off the road.
Would keep us good drivers and the public safer.

Oh I see, you’re one of the ‘good’ drivers, glad you cleared that up by saying so yourself .

It is not hard to be one of the good drivers when there are so many bad ones around.I certainly would never ignore signs like that.
Put all these kids lives at risk and some think jail was OTT.
What’s your point anyway?

Yes, why do none of the bad drivers ever post telling us how bad they are, it’s weird?
If only they did we could lock them all up before they did cause any damage.

Not weird at all.Majority of bad drivers actually think they are good drivers. When did you last hear a driver admit he was bad?
Complacency is a dangerous component.
So a driver who passed a red light and killed a woman and her daughter gets 14 months, whilst a bus driver who passed a road closed sign and gets stuck gets 12?
Is it just me or is there no consistency?

It’s not just you, there is no consistency whatsoever. A driver playing with his phone ploughed into the back of a cyclist killing him, and because he told the judge he was a going to listen to a sermon he got a 6 month suspended sentence and some community service.

12 months for passing a road closed sign when no one was injured seems pretty excessive. Interestingly there was a woman near where I live who took her car past some road closed signs and floated a little way down stream and needed to be rescued by the fire brigade. The police tried to prosecute her for endanger the lives of the rescue services but the case collapsed as the fire services said it had been a simple rescue,
