School bus driver jailed

No real credit payed to the fact this guy was having to take a detour which wasn’t on his route, or that road warning are so often “the boy that cried wolf :unamused:” that the driver made his decisions on… I’d also like to know what his wages would have been if I’d had to abort, compared to that of completing the job.

However 2 road closed signs followed by driving into a lake is a bit stupid!
But if a custodial sentence had to be handed out, I think 3 months would have been adequate…

I think in this situation 12 months suspended sentence and a licence ban for a year, may be more appropriate. The trouble with the courts is a different judge on a different day would most likely have got a different sentence.

Very true, what an absolute waste of taxpayers money. You see car thiefs and burglars getting less :unamused:

Still can’t believe people do such stupid things in flooded areas though. If you don’t know the depth and can’t see the bottom, don’t drive in!

Why did this become an issue? It wasn’t with another vehicle or property so surely this should just be a damage only accident. It was a silly thing to do yes, but 12 month sentence is a bit harsh and they’re going on about prison overcrowding.

Glad to read that I’m not the only one who thinks this sentence is disgusting. No one was hurt or injured, very little damage caused. He wasn’t trying to drive through a raging river just water about a foot deep on the road. But just the sort of decision you would expect from our wonderful justice system. I use the word justice loosely.

I think that there are 2 drivers spending Christmas in prison instead of being with there family’s and that is more than likely down to the court of public opinion

The same judge this week gave a prolific criminal who has 35 convictions for 72 offences and on the ■■■ offenders list for 10 years for ■■■ with a minor gets a 2 years suspended sentence and 250 hrs community service for stealing £26000 of scrap from a site he and some else broke into several times, strange country we live in.

I think its because he was a bus driver, driving school children when this happened. Had he been driving a Class 2 then I’d reckon he would of got less. Add in the fact that he ignored 2 “Road closed” signs, having according to the report already battled his way through flooded roads to this point, made the decision to continue on.

Do I blame him for what he did? A little, we’ve all been under pressure to do the job. Whether its getting those kids to school on time or making that Tesco RDC for that booking time but for a driver with experience and carrying children surely common sense would step in at some point.

Oh I see, you’re one of the ‘good’ drivers, glad you cleared that up by saying so yourself :unamused: .

It is not hard to be one of the good drivers when there are so many bad ones around.I certainly would never ignore signs like that.
Put all these kids lives at risk and some think jail was OTT. :unamused:

What’s your point anyway?

Yes, why do none of the bad drivers ever post telling us how bad they are, it’s weird?

If only they did we could lock them all up before they did cause any damage.

Not weird at all.Majority of bad drivers actually think they are good drivers. When did you last hear a driver admit he was bad?
Complacency is a dangerous component.

Indeed, that could have been my point.
