Scenes at the train this morning

TF1 news in France has reported that police in Calais have made a formal request for the issue of quantities of live ammunition.

This may get slightly more lively soon.

(I always thought all French police were armed anyway so I assume it means being issued with either more than a standard 2 mags or switching to long firearms from pistols or possibly cs/tear/rubber rounds)

Picture the scene. The UK government has expressed its concern to the French authorities as to the welfare of the immigrants and it considers any such French action to be disproportionate and ‘racist’. :smiling_imp:

The Frogs should shoot one or two of the ■■■■■ that may “clear the air for a while” or better still send “CF” over to mingle with them and they’d soon want to ■■■■ off back to where they came from   Bewick.

Being a humble tipper driver what advice could the euro drivers give me? I’m going in a week to France in a car with the wife and a 10 week old through the tunnel and my departure times are midnight both ways. Apart from locking my doors not sure if there’s anything else I should do?

With a 10 week old baby I’d say if you see any severe queues just head for a hotel till it calms down. Not necessarily just cos of the ongoing problems but I imagine it could turn into a nightmare with such a young child in a jam possibly lasting many, many hours.

If the news reports are right it sounds like they intend to shoot more than just one or two of them. :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

Hopefully I’m going to Italy to a motor event and it looks like it’s going to be an alternative more expensive and less flexible crossing option than Dover Calais. :imp:

If I was driving to Italy I would use the Portsmouth - Normandy crossing anyway. You cut out a lot of driving miles and get a night’s kip (book a cabin) on the boat.

I like to go through Belgium and Germany over night rather than the expensive and now speed trap infested French daytime motorways. All of which makes the western crossings less attractive and even then those will probably be the alternative choices of many anyway.Which doesn’t leave much choice. But from the point of view of missing all the potential aggravation that will possibly inevitably effect the more Southern crossings I think it might probably be better to use the Hull to Zeebrugge crossing which would probably be worth the extra run north.

Having said that if I do choose to use the Portsmouth route it will be a daytime booking to at least miss most of those speed traps.

I always use Dover - Dunkirk. Never had any problems. (yet!)

If heard that there was queuing at Dunkirk yesterday but I don’t think it had the same issues with migrants.

You could always try dfds Immingham to Rotterdam service, or the Killingholme (HST) to hook of holland service

The wife just came up with the best idea I have seen yet, she suggested sending a squad of Ghurkha’s to France to help protect the brits in Calais and scare off the migrants! The Ghurkhas are based in Kent so it would be easy to send them over there each day.
Add one of the Scottish regiments in kilts and the wailing of bagpipes and the interlopers would be begging to go back home.

Newhaven to Dieppe route is one of my favourites, and almost always has space available.
