It’s not about what badge is on a truck. It’s about what truck is behind the badge.

no its not, its about how much you get paid for driving the truck/badge

Never driven a Volvo, but would really like to have a go in one.personally i really rate the scania’s, and for me there the best drive (up to now). I also think there a lot quieter in the cab than other wagons as well. The only downside for me is i dont think the seats are the comfiest, maybe there different in the higher models, but the P series they do get uncomfortable after a few hours.
I think its all down to personal preferance, but to me they feel really well built, refined, queiter cab than other trucks and a decent sound system (which to me is important!) and they look nice as well!
Other trucks just dont seem to meet the same standard? Baring in mine iv never even sat in a Volvo let a lone
I was very dissapointed with the Merc Axor, I thought Merc was meant to built decent stuff! But to me it just seemed like a pile of junk!
I agree with all you said try putting the seat all the way down and right back I find my back doesn’t ache after a few hours that way I’ve driven mans loads more grunt in them than the scania but the old one I drove was noisey and driven a merc a few times very plasticky and cheap compared to my scania which feels like the interior will last longer.i wouldn’t mind a go in a Volvo every one raves about them there must be something about them.

To an extent yes. But its not all about the money to some people. Personally i would drive a top spec motor for slightly less than driving a heap of junk for pennys more an hour. Personal preferance though…
Reliable durable economical and tough enough for the job, things don’t fall off as you drive about, and resale value second to none as O/D’s know all this, what else matters?
Fleet spec Scani may not suit the aspirations/image of the modern driver or have enough chrome/toys/lights/kudos for some but there’s a reason fleets keep leasing and buying them, and its not cos they like the sound of the name.
Does it look a bit dated now for the fashionistas, tchah, no stylish front on it, no piano black grill, no camp headlights, no imitation plastic alumium colour strips along the dash, dear me no that simply won’t do, my partner Tarquin absolutely insists i have the latest design dahling.
The pros i found is. Compared to for example volvo. The bogie buttons, you can choose how much weight you want on the drive. Perfect when slipper, not many times you need the full 19t, 13-15t is enough most of the time.
The live scale, it works all the time, not just when standing still.
The ac control panel, it just works.
No ice building on the side windows when cold. No cold holes like on for example a Volvo when your legs feels like ice. Double glazed side windows, perfect!
Retarder, breaks with 800hp, by my knowledge that the most powerful in the industry.
A FH XL feels much more cramped.
Edit:
Forgot, the fast button for the ride height. Perfect when approaching a low bridge or tunnel. Just click down and the truck is 6cm lower. No need to slow down or anything

Actually it isn’t. It would be if the title of the topic was something along the lines of ‘Pay and Conditions’ but seeing as it is about a specific truck, or trucks, drivers rates wern’t part of this particular discussion.
Scania gets my vote purely because you can sit on the bottom bunk in comfort without the top bunk being in the way, sometimes i need a break from my leather seats lol, this can’t be done in a volvo, man, merc. As for cramped lol
loving the pic of the microwave, cab top trumps.
Iv driven a scania r470 not a bad truck the drivers seat could do with binning but is ok I currently drive a actros mega space mp2 and apart from not being able to get anonth weight on the drive axle it’s a really nice truck I’m looking at getting a Volvo fh13 next if the price is right just from the reliability of the truck is very good but trucks are all nearly the same now any way.
I liked the scanis had, especialy the ones with the bunk over the srceen, but I had come out off a premium. but now I’ve got a volvo, well I think i’m gonna try and hang on to it, even though it is an 08 plate so much better to drive
Coming from an MAN tgx xxl to an r series was get getting in to a day cab.

+1! As a Volvo driver I miss the live scale, “bogie-buttons” and the double glazed windows from Scania.
Do you know if the Retardar is 800hp by itself, or is that including the engine brake? If it is including, then Volvo’s better. You can get Volvo retarder+engine brake up to 1160 hp!

Should be only the retarder, don’t know what it is combined. Anyway we are really Approaching max what is possible on a 2 wheel drive truck. Rain and under 10t on the drive is enough to loose grip.
Went from FH500 xl to R series top line, most of the time 580 and 620. Miss I-shift some times but the bogie buttons + scale weigh it up by a mile.
Speciellt i Norge är dom fuktionerna guld
Looking forward to trying the new Volvo, and see if it has the magic-buttons. AFAIK it does have an nice live-scale at least.

Why is it so many so-called professionals rate these heaps■■?
Because they walk the walk
As somebody that only drives these things a couple of times a month, this is my 2 pence worth:
Scania -
Good points: nice cab, nice lay out, nice buttons, quality feel, quiet engine, opti-cruise good for parking, tight spaces etc.
Bad points: Drivers seat uncomfortable, Opti-cruise not good when fully loaded especially on hill starts, foot pedals very small. Cab can rattle on models hitting 2 year old.
Volvo FH -
Good points: Good engine, good ergonomics, solid cab, i-shift seems good all round.
Bad points: Cab is dated ie switches and plastics. Noisy night heater. Blind spot mirror should be above instead of below.
Iveco Stralis: A throw away truck, great for 2-3 years then get a new one.
Daf: Can’t really comment
MAN: Can’t really comment.
Mercedes: Again, not enough time spent to comment.
My Tuppence worth… As a Fella who lives in his truck 5 to 6 days a week for the last 6 years and more before that . I’ve had the pleasure of most of the Major Marques… Volvos fantastic to drive cab left a bit wanting… Scania Nice drive cab was hard to live in Gearbox was a Pita hopeless…Daf best cab imho but unreliable running gear…Man again nice spacious cab but badly designed no storage etc… Merc Actros my present ride for the last 3 years …More or less perfect ,best fridge best cab great drive… The bed could be wider but used to it now. Given the choice spending my own money I’d go for a Merc most reliable Truck I’ve had…

As a so called professional which truck do you class as to be worthy enough for you then
Well for whats its worth out of the various trucks I have driven list not exhaustive and may be added to Actros, Axor, DAF Cf, DAf XF, Strallis, Renault, Volvo and Scania it has only been the Scania that has given me back ache. I thought it was the kind of work I was doing - cages of store produce off a double deck trailer meaning I had to bend to go into lower deck to pull cages out of. Nope it was the Scania seat!!! Personally I will drive anything as long as the money is right but when they affect my back then no sorry my health is most important factor and for that its a big fat NO NO for Scania
I get back pain in Volvos, but not in a Scania. So it is quite individual.
