scania topline

what is the big deal with them?

they are uncomfortable
interior storage is naff all
the seat has 2 adjustments. up or down. nothing in between worked
the brakes are too keen. i nearly jack knifed it when they locked up in the wet going downhill. 2 factors saved me. 1 i was fairly straight anyway. 2. i was traught about cadence braking.
fuel gauge only goes to the halfway mark even when both tanks are filled up.

the only thing i really liked about this motor was the fact that the spots above the windscreen give a far better view than normal high beams. quite handy in the north of scotland

i wonder what they will give me tomorrow. the scania, the volvo or the TGX

out of the three i would have the scania mans are ■■■■ i quite like volvos but iwould always go for a scania

Scania everytime for me,BUT…

It looks like I gonna have to get used to the Volvo FM400 Globetrotter!!!

Scania are now way too expensive and the boss would rather get Volvo with all the toys for the same price as a Scanny cab shell!!!

i keep changing my mind. when i worked for rank hovis in southampton i had an ECT (TGA) and i loved it. then last year i was given an 06 plate actros executive so that went to the top of my list. now i have driven (and lived in for a night) the TGX i am in 2 minds although i think the actros is still slightly ahead due to the fact that the TGX was an auto. my ideal truck would be a V8 actros.

bottom of the pile remains unchanged. iveco and renault. i hate them both

either ones better than a man or a daf crap auto boxes in both the daf wouldnt be to bad if it had a manual box when i say daf i mean 105s absalute pooh.

i seem to go against the grain with autos. a lot of drivers love them, i loathe them. tesco have both manual and auto DAF CFs. if im given a manual im happy to take as many trailers as they want me to take out. if its an auto i go home as soon as i can. i did a night of shunting last month for them and was asked if i wanted an auto. it didnt take me long to say no to that one

give me a manual box everytime all ours are auto except if there hired.ihad a hired r series scania the other night that was manual it made a nice change made me realise how much i miss proper gearboxes

i have a daf 85 with auto box and i quite like it, took a bit of getting used to but ok with it now.

the set up on the older xfs with the gearstick was better the dash mounted dial and paddle are just ■■■■ :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

I’m driving mainly Daf 85’s at the mo, and the auto box is crap much prefer the manual. Had a volvo fh 440 a couple of weeks ago with an auto box and thought it was superb no problem reversing, all round a great truck and very comfortable.

volvos i shift best autobox going  but i still hate auto boxes

Old scania yes. New one no.
Daf, Now that’s comfy and plenty of power.

to be fair bill i like the as tronic on the mark 3 xf with the stump gear beside you and i love the volvo and i shift, but i definatley dont rate the x105f i dont like it one little bit. :imp:

agreed. the only time i have ever had a problem with I shift was in bolton. fully laden at traffic lights pointing uphill, it kept trying to pull away in 4th so it stalled. i had to manually select 1st to get it going before switching back to auto.
the DAF auto seems unsuited for the CF. i didnt have any trouble with the XF but the CF just doesnt seem to like it. trying to move gently (eg picking up a trailer) seems near impossible. its either moving or not moving with no move gently like you can when you have a clutch. the 5 series scannies have that beat. although thats not obvious the first time you drive one and stall it at the first junction you come to because no sod told you to dip the clutch when you are stopping

i have no problems with my 1999 actros EPS box, stuff taking off in 2nd everyime i dont care what yous say about the clutch, shes right to shoot off empty in 4th low.

in saying that, as much more effort as it is, i love driving the 18 speed eaton fuller road ranger box whenever i get the chance

I like my auto box on my Stralis, once you get used to keeping your foot in one place when reversing she’ll keep going steady. Also the fact that it automatically selects the gear you need if you are fully laden, mine will pull of a set of lights going up hill in 3rd when I’m 43t.

I still dont knoe how it’s possible to stall an auto-i’ve tried and cant do it.

stralis normaly do it om hills because there all or nothing so you push down hard it dont now what gear to select has a fit and stalls :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: i had a 58 stralis the other night it has a hillstart button now so its not to bad but they have done away with the gear lever setup now it three buttons on the dash and a paddle so its a big improvement on the older ones

Gimme a Volvo every time, preferably with I Shift.

the scannie was my own fault and i have done it a few times. because its an auto i kept forgetting about the clutch.
the i shift was sat facing uphill with the handbrake on so it would engage the clutch itself. i tried to pull away by accelerating and releasing the handbrake but the gear was too high so it stalled. a similiar comparison would be trying to pull away from stationary in a manual car in 3rd or 4th gear but it was the auto box trying to do it
