I still dont knoe how it’s possible to stall an auto-i’ve tried and cant do it.
the scannie was my own fault and i have done it a few times. because its an auto i kept forgetting about the clutch.
the i shift was sat facing uphill with the handbrake on so it would engage the clutch itself. i tried to pull away by accelerating and releasing the handbrake but the gear was too high so it stalled. a similiar comparison would be trying to pull away from stationary in a manual car in 3rd or 4th gear but it was the auto box trying to do it
I’ve tried that with the handbrake on and it’ll try to pull for a second then it sounds a warning and go into neutral itself.
i work for an agency but im getting a bit of work out of tradimar now. they always send me up north. the last couple of times it was one of their units and trailers but they have picked up some work from asda. i ran to falkirk solo, picked up the trailer, tipped in aberdeen (the guy in the transport office didnt think i could find it without satnav ), went to macraes in fraserburgh and parked up for 10 hours before being sent back empty. i think im doing the same thing today, friday and next sunday. 2 of our lads are on this run permanently on a temp to perm contract. they cant do 7 days a week so it looks like i am filling in one of the gaps now. still, easy job and i get 2 shifts for one commute plus my night out money. i can handle this job for a while
they gave me a TGX today. I do prefer it to its predecessor although its a bloody auto. The steering wheel is still huge but there is loads of storage. 2 drawers under the centre console. Lift the bunk for access to the nearside external locker. 3 decent cupboards above the windscreen plus all the other cubbyholes everywhere. The seat is comfortable with adjustable side and lumber support. There are a few problems though. Its too easy to press buttons on the steering wheel when you are turning. There ir a bank of buttons near your left knee which could be a problem. A foot rest would be nice. The accelerator pedal is too smooth plus there is a bit of plastic to the right of it which you can put your foot partially on by accident. The doors are nice and big making it easy to get yourself and your kit in and out.
I havent driven 1 for ages but i think i still prefer the actros. Before i drove 1 i liked the TGA.
Give me either and im a happy bunny no matter what the job is
…as dreva sez, still a bag o ■■■ then.Never mind storage and big doors, what about crap cab suspension, crap radio ,crap heater vents that leak, crap steering adjustment that bleeds air oh and the stereo and the bonnet pull that doesnt work(same as r series) not to mention the fact that you get sunstroke from that stupid sleeper window and the stupid can’t hold a cup holders. What a crap truck,i’d sooner an Iveco
A real bag ’ o ■■■■■ . I won’t even mention the serious mechanical problems.These may be sorted by now but it’s still a bag ’ o ■■■■■
still, one thing i do like is the way the dash and buttons are lit at night. bright and clear but not so bright to blind you. they got the balance perfect on that score
i like the LED side lights. nice touch although obviously nicked from audis
they have headlamp washers but dont go around pulling bits of bodywork off to see what they conceal. the washer cover is a pig to fit back on. you have to grab the washer behind the head and its smooth and spring loaded. when you pull it right out the washers activate even with the ignition off when you do this

I’ve got a TGA and yes it has it’s faults but for comfort etc i think it’s spot on. Loads of adjustment on the seat, two armrests, my cup holders can hold a cup ok, fridge under the bunk, decent overhead lockers, good storage in the side lockers, all of the controls are easily reachable, vision is excellent. And one other thing, it tows those diabolicle mercs around all week long! I’ll admit that i’ve got scania carved through me like a stick of rock but i’m more than happy with this TGA. 99% of the drivers that i pick up comment on how smooth it is, how quiet it is and how comfy it is.
Rusty Nail has a point there. a CF, axor or any scannie kills my back but i dont have any problem with the TGX or the TGA. its a bit of a stretch to reach the top of the steering wheel though. the scannies beat it on tilt angle. at least they moved the button for adjusting the steering wheel. although it still has the lump at the bottom of the seat there is nothing under it. it is now a rocker switch on the dash behind the left side of the steering wheel. it took me a while to notice it the first time i drove one of these
the handling is remarkably better than an axor. the axor is atrocious on cornering compared to anything else. it just doesnt give you any confidence and the steering is too light so you dont feel like you are connected to the wheels
to be fair to all of them, is there any such thing as a perfect truck? each one has its good and bad points and a lot of them will be down to personal opinion. what one driver likes, another driver wont like it. i dont think any of the truck manufacturers will ever solve the issue of diversity
This comes up again and again but i don’t seem to have that problem, i wonder is it because i dont have the lazy EPS gearchange.
I drove the tga’s when they first came out in '01,we waited a long time to get new trucks and where glad to see the back of the 10 year old eurotechs we had. The tga’s were great for the first 3 months but then they started giving trouble-alot of trouble. We had 29 of them and they all failed regularly. After 3 years enough was enough, they got rid of the lot.
I did ask scanny if they had improved a deeply flawed truck but it seems only superficially. It’s a shame really, there should be more choice in trucks but if a manufacturer won’t/can’t sort out the major problems then i think they deserve to get slagged off
[/quote]
i chose that name years ago for chat sites. i wanted something relating to trucks and since everyone has heard of scania i chose that and i stuck with it. obviously since then i have gained a lot more experience and i prefer other trucks to scanias

see if its still the same in three years time ibet it aint as good when its a few
hundred thousand ks on the clock and its rattlimg its arse off
I’ve had 2 4-series & they both had the seat with the split back rest & I have to say it’s the most comfy seat I’ve had in any lorry, the storage space is crap admittedly with those silly fold down lockers but the drawer on the engine tunnel is very usefull, all in all a nice comfy motor & a pleasure to drive, especially with a V8.
It’s all down to individual tastes, some people like fat birds, I prefer tall leggy blondes with ■■■■■■■■

and the reason he has Scania carved thru him is because when he was a lil nipper he spent every waking moment riding around in his Dad’s
