Scania Centurions

glenman:
the centurion badge seems to placed on the side in different positions, was there no set place for it ?

There does seem to be a lot of variations, probably down to who did the paintwork and where it best suited the livery.

i’ve seen the badge location come up when people are debating the originality of some trucks.

If there was that much variation when the trucks were new theres going to be a lot more now that these trucks have been through the miles and repaints that 19 years brings.

i think the interest is in what are fake and what are real centurions, but it would seem that the position of the badge wouldn’t really help that much.

There certainly are a few later trucks badged up as Centurions. I suppose knowing the history of the truck and/or the presence of the original certificate would be a better bet in seeking out which are genuine.

a friend of mine is convinced that he knows of 2 centurians that park in a yard very near to where he works, that are on N reg plates

 Some people referred to all streamlines as Centurions. [whereas of course not all streamlines were Centurions and not all Centurions were streamlines]

Heres a rather rough example of a ‘centurion’

That’d be ideal for a resto job. If only I had some cash!

Has anyone got a picture to post of the recently restored RE Owen from Shropshire Centurion?

Aston Clinton’s were ACH weren’t they?

this motor (on the post above this)used to pull tilts out of Felixstowe/Harwich in the mid 90’s.
I am positive it was a 450 and not a 500, (i would actually put money on it !!)
A young lad had it, i think an owner driver, and i think he was based out Harwich way. the ACT on the number plate were his initials, A…C…Transport. cant remember what his name was thou, think it was Andy something.
He had it new (or nearly new, its on a private plate obviously) and had the conversion done, i remember this cos i had a new 143 streamline at the same time (M reg) (not a centurion) and i wanted to have a look inside it to see the difference in interior size.
My 143

allways fancied getting some centurion badges for it, but never did.

By the way, the McKellar pearlescent Centurion, when they made that and put every extra in it, why did they put a window in the back of the cab? (in the bedroom) i think that spoilt it tbh.

The centurion was no bigger, it was just the same cab!

My mate has a Topline M***CDX in North Wales, maybe that one? Will check!!!

As an aside the best 3 series toplines had the 2/3 split bottom bunk with the passenger seat on a full length runners that went to the back wall, well ahead of its time!

Please do mate! Photos would be good!!
we had 2 mate, think the other one was 976 iirc. Mine was built in Sweden, the other was done in Holland (or was it Belgium) boss put air horns on for me, (one each side) as i looked after my motors, the seat in mine was a bit different, my lumbar support was adjusted with a button, 976 was adjusted with a little rubber ball that you had to pump by hand. And mine had a bit more go in it than 976.

im sure i once saw 986, painted purple pulling a fridge for Chitty, i think they were from around Heathrow way.
Would be interesting to know if your mate has got it! It would definatly be a Suffolk with that reg.

It’s a white topline with origional scania white/orange/red stripes, and i remember that truck from when i was a kid in North Wales so it’s been here 15 years plus to my knowledge■■?

Loadsa cracking pics on this thread more please
