ask spanky about my 4series i drive now… the renault premium i had previous to it was quieter inside…there is the reason i don’t call you as much these days, in the premium it was nice and quiet, now you are in the scrapia, it always sounds like you have got the windows open and the noise coming down the phone is unbearable
dbt:
look at spankys truck… the ‘easy’ thing to do for the owner who had the conversion done would of been to leave it as it come… but he wanted something different…there is one major difference there, the conversion on the truck that i now own, is a cosmetic alteration, the one that you are looking at is a major mechanical/electrical conversion
something else to consider, the truck was brand new, a few months old when it was done, so they were paying for that, then they spent approx £20,000 on the conversion
i purchased the truck from the finance company as a reposession vehicle.
that alone speaks volumes!
yea they spent 75k buying a truck and an extra 20k on a conversion… 95k is alot to have on finance… no wounder they had to sell it… your looking at 450 odd pound a week for 5 years just for the truck… without ins tax etc etc etc…
richmond:
Buy a fh 12 globey, there good tools
cant fault you there mate… they are a fantastic truck… great looks… fantastic engines … reasonable prices… all round very good motors…

No… I’m not the one that comes on a site, asks for advice, receives endless of “don’t do it” replies with numerous very good reasons why not, and then says “right, I’m gonna do it”.
But you’re a (to be) owner driver so that goes a good way to explain the complete lack of intelligence. But you carry on fella 'cause you know best eh.
if you like the 4 series that you are currently in, ask you gaffer to see if he will sell it you when you have got your O Licence
simple

Well it’s true Rob. It’s not often I agree with you, as you know, but what you said about the headaches with the looms, wiring, mechanicals is all spot on and it’ll be a never ending “project”. I’ve done 2 engine conversions on cars myself and even when you think you’ve got all potential problem areas covered, when you actually come to do it they’re be another 20 unexpected issues appear which cost a lot of time, head-scratching and money to fix.

maybe you should of left the people who know how to handle a ‘spanner’ to do your conversion? i have done with the aid of a few friends… a bmw 320 to 325… mondeo st200 with a st220 engine… countless vectra v6 transplants… gearbox’s lsd’s but they all worked out ok? maybe its because the people doing the conversion knew what they were doin

i have just had to put a replacement engine in one of my trucks, the engine in the truck was an early euro3 engine, and the replacement was a later euro3 engine, same block, same BHp, same mountings and everything, but the difference on the electronics was unbelievable, it wasn’t just a case of 1 out, 1 in and job done, a lot of the sensors on the engines were different, the alternator mounting position was totally different and had to be drastically modified, that said, the original fan belts would not fit, so had to source new belts, it was a real PITA to get it fitted and running
AND THAT WAS A LIKE FOR LIKE ENGINE!!!
DBT, stop being a ■■■■, and just buy something that will do the job it was designed for in todays conditions
as i said earlier, and MNAY times over the phone, if you insist on buying a 143, buy one and use it for shows
oh, and if you can get a 143 rolling shell for £3000 as you quoted earlier, it will be more rust than bodywork
so does your truck now work rob?
just as i thought special k… quick to criticize everyone else eh.

Yep, totally agree (we’ll have to stop doing this

Anyway I’ve said my bit now and he thinks he’s knows better so… good luck and all that…

Anyway I’ve said my bit now and he thinks he’s knows better so… good luck and all that…
after calling me stupid(bad thing to do lad) you then went on to say alot of hard work and problems… well i thought it was going to just jump into the chassis for me and buckle itself up
i know its not easy as ive said before… but that dosnt mean it isnt worth doing ‘TO ME’ ok…
dbt:
so does your truck now work rob?
yes, but my truck is only 6 years old, and the one that has had the replacement engine is only 8 years old, neither of them are 20 years old, they are both designed at euro3 and run at 44 tonne (50 tonne design weight) and not had to alter anything to run into London for the LEZ compliance
dbt:
it is designed to do what they are expected to do… thats why people are still running them…
but have they all done the stupid idea that you are planning? are they running at 44 tonne? are they running into London? are they LEZ compliant?
NO
Oh, and Special, you really want to hear of some of his ‘other’ ideas
they have given me many hours of amusement
I have ther answer, i have here a 143, 1989, £20k and its yours, just dont go into london and jobs a good un.!
richmond:

take the engine and transmission out of it and he’ll give you £3k for it
