Well I know that it belonged to lynches, a fruit and veg company in Ardee which went bankrupt years ago and the scania lay in their yard, it is an original scania which came from Mc Elvaneys, the largest scania dealer in Monaghan, It has never been painted or touched, I am yet to confirm but quite a few people told me it was one of the first 142s ever made ( because it is registered early 1983 ) or its just a rumour. I was so suprised because the scania was only taxed for 19.5 tonnes gross weight and would’ve received very little abuse. In regards to the interior it is very clean because the window was only broken when the 142 was sent to the scrapyard.
That looks like a really clean interior. Am i dreaming or do i even see an aircon swith?? In which case her first owner (Ireland based?) Will have really indulged!
To me would be a real shame to see her scrapped or used as a donor. But that’s just my own view (biased as a 142 owner and lover myself)
Yep that is an aircon switch . Im having trouble with the air line that plugs into the trailer . There is air flowing from the valve but it is really weak even though she sits fully built up of air , i wonder what could be causing this. However everything else is working fine
Reference your air problem.is it a small amount of air comming out the yellow susie ? If it is it could be the handbrake valve , the plastic slide used to wear and cause this issue , it is adjustable but you need to remove the valve and adjust the locknut out 1/4 of a turn at the bottom of the hand lever but in the valve body , if this doesn’t work the other causes were the double check valves there are three of these but it it is the akward one buy the battery box that could cause this as well, clean it out and unseize it refit and test , the above will cost you only time and effort , before you start replacing valves , good luck hope this helps . Ps one of my favourite Scania’s , worked on more than I care to remember hope you save her judging by the others she’s in safe hands kind regards Skane
Yes there is a weak flow of air out of the suzie. Would I need to remove the the middle console for the handbrake? I’m sorry to rant on but I hope it is easily fixed.
Yes it’s a really easy fix , just remove the brown large cover and ash tray , mark the three pipes drain air tanks and remove pipes , then remove the hand brake screws take out valve , then remove the two screw that hold the handle ,be careful this has a small spring , this will reveal the reaction piston , remove the circlip and pull out piston undo the nut 1/4 of a turn then reassemble all parts build up air and test , sounds complicated but it’s real simple . You do it on a bench you won’t go far wrong. B/G Skane
Thank you so so much. I also noticed that even though the handbrake lever is free and moving the dash light is stuck on. Even when im driving. Could this have anything to do with it?
It is a possibility , but more likely to be the warning switch or earth wire for the P light , but try valve adjustment first , does it take time to release the hand brake ? If it does it could be low pressure in the park trailer tank , this is the the very front one by the front wing , it has a pressure reduction valve in it to keep pressure at 8.5 bar ,again the valve is adjustable so you can increase the pressure to see if that puts it out , if you have access to a test gauge put it on the brake chamber , spring brake side and release the hand brake it should be around 8.5 bar or above , if it’s at 6.5 or below the tank has low pressure and thats your problem , simples , B/R Skane

Hi, Just out of question, does anyone know where I could find an original scania 142 owners manual for sale on the internet?, I thought it would be nice just to have one
Hey Cmcparland, If you understand a little France, even without you will understands lots. You can buy RTD (Revu Technique Diesel) that’s a repair manual. Now is one for sell for only 9 Euro.
Everything stands in it, you can find them for every brand or type (second hand). And about price look at
E bay (com) (FR) or BE)
Pitty is your cabine still not galavanised, those don’t rust anymore from '85 on.
But keep it, look at a restauration of a 111/141, cab those are mostly more worse.
For the air, the best is to put on an airdryer, for everything the best way.
