SCANIA 142's

This was my old girl Great trucks

My dad and I bought a Scania 142 from the local scrapyard to use for parts for our 1987 142 tag axle. when we got the scania home it was cleaner than we thought it was going to be so we washed the moss and dirt off and put in some batteries hoping there might be some life left in the 4x4.Within fifteen minutes of turning the key we were driving round our quarry with the air fully built up, little bits of rust falling over us. UNBELIEVABLE it even started… A testament to how good these scania truck are. Later on we contacted the original owner who had the 142 before us and he told us that the scania had not been started since 1995… so twenty years later and a little bit of diesel we were ready to hook in again!. Turns out she is a flat nosed 1983 scania 142 non-intercooled 388hp, which Iv’e been told are extremely rare to find in the scrapyard

Very nice 142 you got there, Cmcparland.
This comment actually applies to both the lead vehicle but also the donour. Lovely to hear that she fired up after 20 years! Feom what I see, a new cab and she would be on the road again!

One from Bordeaux

Couple in Stuttgart

This abandoned Dutch 142 (+tilt) with an Estepe-type roof stood in the import parking in Tangiers port for years, just slowly decaying. You can see it to the right of this picture. Robert

This was our pig trotter as we used to call it, estepe cab which Scott tried to kill but even then it only picked up rings on one cylinder, Les Slater fixed her and she went on for a good while after that on air as well and a dam good looker to boot, Buzzer.

Hi everyone, I have decided to save my 1983 142H, I feel it would be a shame to break this scania, I was hoping if i could get your opinion on if this scania is good enough to restore, I would greatly appreciate your point of view,

thanks

Hi, Just out of question, does anyone know where I could find an original scania 142 owners manual for sale on the internet?, I thought it would be nice just to have one

Hard to tell only from pictures but these motors have become so rare that they are worth some restoration effort. For sure the cab looks very poorly but if she fired up after 20 years and built up air she might have some good life left in her.
Was the windshield gone i.e. has it been raining on the instruments for years or are they still healthy? And how does the chassis look?

Some close-up pictures of the interior + general bodywork would be helpful (and interesting)

Do you know any history of your 142 other than it came from a scrap yard , it to me would look much like the colours of ja cox over near hull , although with the h chassis it would probably be an original Irish motor , cox ran 143 scanias for sure and I think he had one 142 .
I don’t know if john is still around today but he was a gent and would be willing to help in anyway .

Oops sorry just read your o.p. and see you were already talking to its original owner sorry

Well I know that it belonged to lynches, a fruit and veg company in Ardee which went bankrupt years ago and the scania lay in their yard, it is an original scania which came from Mc Elvaneys, the largest scania dealer in Monaghan, It has never been painted or touched, I am yet to confirm but quite a few people told me it was one of the first 142s ever made ( because it is registered early 1983 ) or its just a rumour. I was so suprised because the scania was only taxed for 19.5 tonnes gross weight and would’ve received very little abuse. In regards to the interior it is very clean because the window was only broken when the 142 was sent to the scrapyard.
