Looks superb… except, does the body look too long for the wheelbase of the chassis, or am I going cross-eyed?
No you are not X eyed i thought the same, didnt realise it was a show pony, but cant remember Swains running one of those, then i read the text lolol
It´s forty-one years since this 140 was new then, a year before I started to drive heavy vehicles myself in 1974
Notice the small yellow lamp on the mirror, it´s the first attempt to get some warmth in the mirrors… and it looked nice at night as well. As I can recall it was a hole under the lamp, so the warmth should spread better on the backside of the mirror… hi-tech from the “good old days”

Well there you go Stellan, you can never stop learning, thanks again for the information 1
- That 140 is beautiful- modern lorries look OK, but…
- LB76- were we wrong about the wheelbase/overhang of the Swain’s 141?
- Where did those double headlamps come from? I have seen them on a few LBs before. Were they a common modification in Scandinavia?
Hi anorak, there is some thing strange about that wheelbase for sure - it doesn’t look right! nice resto job though about time we had a lorry & trailer done i reckon - i love 'em as you might have noticed !The standard headlights on the 110’s were useless and i have seen many mods done to them this one looks like it might do the job lol!

I thought I was wrong about the odd overhang on the Swains 141, because the body/wheelbase on the multi-lamped 140 looks about the same.
Regarding dark lamps, I remember, in the 1980s, you could improve the performance of 12V car headlamps by fitting 100W halogen bulbs. Was this not possible in the '70s, on 24V electrics? It seems a drastic step to take, to change the lamps completely, just for a bit of extra light, especially when you could hang as many auxiliary lamps as you wanted, below the bumper (It is legal to use fog lamps when driving on dipped headlights, I think). Besides, I think the original oval lamps look better!
was not and is not legal in finland, whit the many extras and foglights only in rain or fog, cheers benkku

What, not even in the dark? Bearing in mind that correctly-aligned foglamps do not dazzle oncoming traffic, it would take a bored/miserable copper to stop a lorry, at night, for using an extra set of lamps to see.
PS I have posted a potential restoration project for you on the Scania-Vabis thread!
only one dipped beam /side and fullbeam after referens usually 2/side in the dark north
,so it is ,cheers benkku
