I used to deliver in to Longbridge and they always looked in the cab on the way out. Just through the window, not actually inside. When I had got to know them a bit, I asked what they were actually looking for - the guy said he didn’t give a ■■■■ but they were on camera so had to go through the motions.
When I was on Palletforce, I delivered into Landrover Solihull several times a week. They always checked the back of the truck, even though I could have 10 pallets in there for other deliveries. I asked the same question and got the same answer.
Only ever had it done once. The guard went up two steps, stuck his head in then said OK. According to him its just a box ticking exercise, got to make it look like you’ve made an effort to the CCTV.

I bet the same applies in a lot of places.
I stopped traffic at Tilbury docks once for 10 minutes because no-one told me I had to declare all the pallets I had on even if they weren’t being delivered. I couldn’t understand the guard and he couldn’t understand me explaining to him that they were for Basildon and not Tilbury.
went to Toilet at an RDC at 17.00 and then at 2300 again.
Second Time there was a Toilet Door missin.
Dont know said the Cleaner. Just been 10 min away.Come back and it was gone.
Still think now security is needed?

I was taking a Portakabin into Sellafield a couple of years back and they wanted to put a [zb] dog into my cab. I said no but it created a lot of bother and I got into trouble grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Can`t see what the problem is if you having nothing to hide.
At the end of the day they are only carrying out the job they have been employed for and doing what they are told.
Whats the difference between a random cab inspection in your own depot by your own people or a security check, would you tell your Boss to ■■■■ off
The problem is it’s my personal space, and my belongings they’re going through. They’re not the police or customs. Look in the trailer, fine, there’s nothing of mine in there. Top step of the cab for a look, that’s fine as I can see his hands on the rails. Any further and touching my stuff, big no no. They’re not the police or customs. Even the police need to prove they have suspicion to carry out a search. Last time I checked they need a judge to sign a warrant to come in your house and riffle through your stuff. So if the police have to jump through hoops, there’s no way some little hitler in a high viz is getting near my personal space
Police have authority to search your home without a warrant if you are arrested.
I wouldn’t tolerate having anybody in my cab unless I had specifically invited them to be there. I wouldn’t let a private security company search my cab. If they tried to do it on the way in I would simply turn around and take their stuff away, if they tried to do it on the way out I would say “If you think I’ve stolen anything call the Police and they can search the cab, otherwise go do one, and I’ll sit here blocking your exit gate until you raise that barrier”.

To all you “I’d slap the guards” heroes, please try it at RAF Croughton. Bet you’re not so flouncy when a yank is opening your cab doors and bonnet, armed with a rifle.
At a military or Government sensitive base I reckon it’s part of the course tbh.
I have also had the dog in the cab coming off the Holland boat, but it’s HM Customs ffs, same situation, you don’t argue or you end up cuffed in the back of a Transit.
However delivering a load of bog rolls to a rdc, or something/somewhere similarly irellevant is another matter, and where I would make a stand
Personally I’d say go ahead look in back of truck, then if they’d want to search cab I’d say no . If they insist I’d get out and say go ahead. Then leave gates turn round and ask where’s my £250 quid I had in wallet?
After inquiry into that they might rethink idiotic policy .
If they can’t control loading bays to security that’s their internal problem , exactly what do they think you are going to do from bay to security ?
Then so I’ll give them some crap to think about . They think I’m stealing I’ll think they’re stealing !
Pathetic policy deserves pathetic response
I would not accept it. Ridiculous really, if they had reasonable suspicion then fine but until then no !

That said I once told a customs man at Liverpool dock not to look in a carrier bag i had in the cab he was new and his partner that day couldn’t help but burst out laughing as he asked why he shouldn’t look in the carrier bag. All I’ll sat was it was in my clothes locker and should have had a bio Hazzard sticker on it

Am I the only thinking of that Micheal Caine line “You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off”

I am (with my company’s blessing) going to get a small box and put in it a pair of latex gloves, a pair of coverall plastic shoe protectors, a latex hair net and a bottle of alcohol skin rub. The next time a security guard says he has the right to enter my cab I will accede as long as he cleans himself in front of me with the rub, and then dons the protective items. If he wishes to sit down on any surface within the cab, I will require him to provide his own paper cover for my seat or any other surface he comes into contact with.
Brilliant.
…except for the bit highlighted in red. Your company doesn’t give two shiny [zb]s about you. They care about money. Nothing else. You can easily be replaced. They’re not going to “bless” your antagonistic plan.
Just do it anyway.
Except if you read my posts, my company does give two shiny ■■■■■ about me! I drive for a small privately owned company who have backed me all the way on this matter. They’ve kept me informed of every move by the corporate giant, and my TM has said I can carry out my plan with their full blessing.
Since this happened on Thursday evening I’ve actually found out that our contract to deliver is actually with another (bigger) company, rather than Mike Ashley’s (4 letters, begins with N, ends with ike!) so I doubt that they would rock the boat too far anyway.

And there it is !.
I’m surprised it took soooo long.
Yea, sad isn’t it? I’ve got nothing to hide when I’m having a dump in the toilet at home, but I wouldn’t let Ocado put a camera in there just because I worked for them. How come so many truck drivers have become so prepared to put up with this abuse?

Bang on, but to do it, is to basically castrating yourself…
The path of least resistance brought about by general compliance has to be the way forward. As at the end of the day, those people are only doing what they are paid and REQUIRED to do, they aren’t really interested in actually “working” unless they feel they have a reason or motive. So I tackle them with a helpful compliant attitude in the hope of them not spinning up the grinding wheel ready to sharpen an axe! But my opinion on this is limited. as I’ve never tramped and don’t care about frilly curtains!

Yep, I’m far more compliant then the person I’m talking to, can empty a clip into me before I can utter the words:
“You misunderstand me!”
bigKris:
I’ve come across this a few times, including security checks on Southampton docks,
My truck is my home Monday to Friday/Saturday and i don’t where my boots inside the cab, they stay on the step
I’ve got nothing to hide but there’s no way any security person is getting in my cab on my clean carpets with his boots on,
I will comprise and they can climb up to the top step and look inside but i won’t move out of the drivers seat to give them access,
It’s tough if they don’t like it, report me, sack me do what ever but your not getting in with your boots on.
As I’ve already posted twice in a row, I thought I’d end with what I see as the sensible middle ground.
Who can argue with that picture regarding the driver’s issue about what the search is ALL about to them■■?
