Delivered into that we’ll known company and upholder of workers rights based in Shirebrook tonight. On the way out I was asked as usual to open the back doors for a security check. Ok, no problem but on walking back to my driver’s side door the security guy then informs me that the rules have changed & he needs to look in my cab. I tell him that the windows is open and he can use the step to look in which he does, but then a “colleague” appears and says he has to get into the cab & check everything.
I stayed calm but told both of them that they were not getting into my cab. Cue not happy efficious attitude saying that I and/or my company could be banned from the site. I shrugged…and repeated that they weren’t getting into the cab.
They’re getting ridiculous at these places, treating us like criminals and I’m not having these jumped up goons going through my personal, private space.

Tell them that after they’ve been in the cab, you’ll need to pat them down, perhaps even a body cavity search. You know, just to make sure they’ve not nicked anything.
I also used to refuse a cab search, some of them used to have a bit of a tantrum but I’d argue that as they had not looked in my cab on the way in then it was futile to look on the way out as they couldn’t possibly know what should or shouldn’t be in there!
If it’s within the company then I don’t bother. Had a “cab search” at a shop once, he climbed up the steps said thank you and climbed back down, didn’t even look.
Any further than the top step and I tell them ■■■■■■■■. Only customs or the old bill get further. My boss won’t even get in my cab. He knows I’m a fussy ■■■■

To be fair that’s what most of them do as they have to do so many a day but I’ve had the odd one or two who do search thoroughly but it’s very rare.
I got banned from imperial tobacco for the same thing but in my car - always clashed with a jumped up little hitler in a hat, one day when leaving he decides to leave the barrier down and just open my boot and start ‘searching’ no warning or nothing.
ended up banned hey ho the place is shutting down now karma is a ■■■■■.
They have to ensure that you are not smuggling the illegal workers out.
Waiting for the inevitable ‘‘What have you to worry about if you have done nothing wrong’’ from the liberal minded spineless amongst us.
You done right mate, give some a bit of power and they have no barrier.
They have no power to search, you have every right to say no to them. “Your going to ban me?? GOOD!”
They normally don’t even have the power to ban you!
Why not post up the way you were treated on the companies farcebook page.
I don’t mind as long as I’m present, getting in my cab with me is easy, getting out is the tricky part.
Depending on how the gatehouse randomiser button is feeling I can get searched 4/5 times a day in my depot. Then again at stores although only ever once been searched at a store. I’m talking proper searches here every compartment open, side lockers open and bed raised up. They used to check on top of the spoiler but that got done away with because of health safety. Your personal search at the end of your shift involves running a wand over you and looking in your bag. The personal search randomiser is always set at 100% during warehouse shift change and 50% the rest of the day.
Thing I don’t get is drivers are banned from warehouse and trailers are sealed when you take them off the door, so what the ■■■■ are you actually supposed to steal
But to be fair my depot does suffer badly from theft, I’d say they must catch an average 2/3 warehouse agency bods a month on the thieve. Always see a police car a few times a month
I should be me making a thread and complaining reading that back
It does get my back up when leaving a site, after doing a lot of sainsburys sites, there isn’t much room to when at the gate house, and seeing as you must not run round the site with door open ( even if empty ) then at the gatehouse…they want you to get out and open the doors…Basingstoke was a problem as its almost impossible to get out of the cab, so I said to them…ok mate you do it…not allowed they said…ok I`ll put the kettle on then…there was a lot of problems after that…they wouldn’t let me back up…wouldn’t open the barrier to go forward…so how do they expect me to get out and open the doors…but they are not the only ones…many sites ask you to open the doors…why not sign the gate pass to say the trucks empty…or do they not trust their own workforce.

Bet they jump out pretty quickly when they see your lube collection lol
Jut say to them the view out my window constantly changes unlike your office which is the same day after day. Security must be a soul destroying job.
I was taking a Portakabin into Sellafield a couple of years back and they wanted to put a ■■■■■■■ dog into my cab. I said no but it created a lot of bother and I got into trouble grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Got back to our yard this pm & the TM informs me that he got an email and a phone call.
He said the RDC caller seemed surprised that he knew about the situation (I rang & told my TM 1st thing this morning) and was very snotty in trying to inform my company about “the rules”.
The email was sent after the phone call, and stated that it is in our delivery terms of contract that we agree to allow in cab searches if necessary on any Sp**** D***** site or premises. My TM offered the opinion that if the driver refuses to allow a security guard to enter his cab then he will back that up. Great balls from TM, well done that man for standing up to what in effect is a corporate bully.
And after searching through the agreed terms, he could find no reference to anything other than “a goods vehicle security check if requested”. Nothing about having authority to enter a vehicle cab to search for god know’s what.
We have two sites where it is stipulated ALL vehicles will be searched when leaving site.
All employees have to be searched and items xrayed. Drivers are included in this.
I have no issue with this as it was pointed out to me by my TM when I started. The search on both sites comprises of quick look in the cab and a walk round with a mirror. Phones/tablets/satnavs left in locker at security. You keep the key.
If I went to any other of of delivery places and they asked for a cab search I’d tell them to walk away in short jerky movements
