Based in Newbury Berks, fleet of Scania’s with the odd Volvo, DAF but mainly Scania pulling powder tanks, flats & curtainsiders.
Had depot’s in Manchester & Gainsborough, Bought out by De Rijke.
Only known truck left in Sayers livery is in there yard in Newbury that the family still own, this truck is a B reg 112 owned by an ex driver, still runs.
Their AEC Mandator wrecker is still is existance, I saw it last week at the Tacho centre in Andover. I will try to get a picture the next time I am there.

Yes, it was indeed de Rijke that bought them. I’ve a recollection that their Northern depot was in Stockport, but I didn’t know about Gainsborough. I didn’t know that they started in Brightwalton either - that’s a bit out of the way!
Whereabouts was their yard in Newbury? I think I’ve seen the Scania that you’ve mentioned - a couple of times I saw it parked near the Great Western Outlet at Swindon over the weekend, but that was a year or two ago and I’ve never seen it in Newbury.

Sayers yard is in Daytona Drive, Colthrop, Thatcham.
Still there, still owned by the Sayers family, it is used by Scania as there Newbury site & what used to be a Seddon Atkinson parts dealer, Berkshire commercials,
If you have to go to the Scania dealer you will see a B reg 112 parked up still in Sayers colours.
The Manchester depot was in Bridge Street, Stalybridge, Purpose built next door to one of there bigest customers, ATO chem, this company also had there UK headquarters next to the Newbury yard.
I was a subby for them for 11 years, only time I ever made any money in transport.

Ah, Stalybridge, not Stockport! Thanks for that - I remember now. I didn’t realise that ATO was in Newbury too (isn’t it a subsidiary of Elf?)

The building is now the Thatcham insurance research facility, the place where they give the alarms on cars the going over and smash up new cars to see how much it costs to repair.
Rather late in to this thread having only just discovered the website, but I drove for Sayers in the mid 80s (great to see pictures of the lorry I had from new - Wessex Chieftan D226ABY - many photos of her in different places around Europe) and I have lots of fond memories of working for them and with the other drivers - especially some nights out in France! I started with a F7, then onto Alan’s old F12, Dave’s 141 (‘Burble’), before getting the new one. Regularly pulled T39, one of the few tipper tanks they had! Amongst the best jobs I ever had!
yes blackie i made some good money there aswell when i was a subby . if u are wondering who i was do u remember the jerk with the merc on tankers ? leave it with u for now tamworth hogg .
I always remember shipping out of Southampton with Sayers lads. Very nice outfits, always spotless. Dave “Dixie” Dixon being someone I remember well, last I knew working for C&B (Cowboys & Bandits Squadron) Haulage.
When I did UK work for Kingswood, we did the bagged ATO work and unloaded at Coltrop and Stalybridge. I will admit that almost everyone who worked for them thought their “■■■■■■ exports” didn’t stink and that they were a cut above the rest. Especially those up north who got worse when Derek took over.
