They had a big job out of Mold in the 80’swarwick international - blackie has now posted a photo of one of the semi-liveried trucks on that job (thanks blackie
)
I thought they had more than two, but Hey, I liked the sound of Derek taking over
I remember Sayers from the 1960’s when they ran 4 cylinder Albion Cheiftans fitted with bulk bodies for grain etc, they ran to a lot of the mills around the Reading area where I visited with the old man on Laws Transport. Even in those days the lorries were well turned out.
Pete.
The DAF in Sayers livery was sold to them cheap after they had it as a demo.
It was involved in a bad accident and written off, the bosses were going to
through a party to celibrate, it was the worst truck they ever bought, that
why there was never another DAF on the fleet.
Scania through and through.

Interesting one that because Dafs had a good reputation back then.
Still looks smart in the sayers livery…

Hi MaggieD, yes Pip is still around, all the brothers are, they still own
the yard in Newbury, dont see them very often, they usualy appear at
any funerals of ex drivers.
Hi Bubbleman,
Thanks for the picture of my old 112, brought back some memories.
We have an old Sayers truck in the yard, will get a pic and post it,
its in a sorry state but still runs.
Hi blackie,
Glad to hear that they are all ok, spent some good nights on Thoresen’s Le Havre - Southampton ferry with Sayers drivers good old days
(with the duty free)
Regards
Richard
I remember Sayers well as a firm, although I didn’t know any of their drivers. As I worked for JWQ in Reading, we’d always flash each other if we saw wach other “up the road” somewhere. The pics I’ve posted were taken at The Newbury Carnival around June in 1987 (where has the bloody time gone?), my friend from Jwq (Malcom Hawkins) and C&B haulage (Bill Mckinnon) were there too. I hope you enjoy the pictures-Terry.
