I will lend you a pair of my size 12’s if you want?
Just showed the lad who looks after my motors all the pics of “The Visit” and he has gone and booked his camper van on the ferry for late August and he is touring the Chilli Con Carneau area, he was well impressed, you need a job in the tourist board office mate!
Hello Gents,
Some intense classic lorry show-related activities have kept me away from here for some weeks, but i felt there would be no better thread than Saviem’s fan club to share some pictures of a brilliant classic lorry run i attended the last weekend of May.
It was a three-day run which was structured as follows:
Day one - Brignoles to Malaucène, at the foot of Mont Ventoux.
Day two - climbing mont Ventoux
Day three - return to Brignoles ( i sadly had to defect for I had to be back in Switzerland before the Saturday 10pm driving curfew).
I took many pictures, a small collection of which I will be sharing on here.
A one-sentence summary would be that the French clasdic lorry scene has some true gems in it, some remarkable vehicles… and individuals!
Norbert Fréret (whom I just mentioned on Froggy55’s Locomotion thread) has invested in a new fleet carrier ( he came down 1150kms from his home base to attend thus run. True commitment!
1977 and 1982 - berliet became Renault Véhicules Industriels from Apr 1980 onwards.
The R360 has Berliet’s V8, is essentially a re-badged TR350…
This motor belongs to Guillaume who lives around Valence. Originally a Swiss lorry, she was kept in immaculate shape by a fairground operator who sold her on three years back or so. Only some 340’000 kms from new I believe
As usual, clicking on the pictures puts them upright!
Norbert’s TR305. The TR305 was an uprated TR280 through addition of intercooling. From April 1980, this would become yhe Renault R310.
1973 Berliet TR280. One of the earlier units of this type.
1958 Berliet “Gazelle”
Gazelle from the rear
A common sight back then - a “pinardier” or wine carrier
Of course, this is France. Proper meal breaks are called for.
More to follow soon gentlemen. I am going to catch a little more sleep.
Bye for now
David
Excellent photos David. Thank you. Must have been quite a run.

A beautifully-restored Berliet GAK.2
Unfortunately, this meeting is too far for me! Thanks for your most interesting report and pictures! The first Berliet is a GCK (GCW 17,5 tonnes), not a GAK (lighter).
You are right there Froggy, it was a GCK. Well spotted. You have a keen knowledge of the old marque it seems! Did you perchance drive these motors yourself in your career?
Here’s another batch of photos…
