When I posted that pic I thought, what would the wagon plus all the cars be worth today, probably as much as you earn in a week young Patrick, but it would keep old pensioners like me and Maggie D going for a couple of years i reckon…
pv83:
Little suckers…by that you mean the presence of the most stunning, jaw dropping, aye, sexiest car that ever set foot (tyre) on the French motorway, surely…
Alpine A110…what a cracking little beauty of a car that was…and still is…
They may be all those things whippersnaps, but when they’re painted blue with a white stripe down the side that says Gendarmerie, and you’re slightly over your time, slightly overloaded, and slightly on the wrong side of a legal permit, then, little suckers they were…not that I ever did any one of those things you’ll understand
Theres a Museum about 2 hrs from us that has 4 or 5 of them, plus a rally car, plus the later Alpines, I guess you’d have a hard on if you got up close and personal with them…
I have some good news : For the first time since 2014, this year we will again have an edition of LA LOCOMOTION EN FÊTE.
Dave/Fergie intends to join us as a visitor, and I helped him locate a nearby hotel, which still has some rooms available.
Froggy 55, if 55 stands for the Meuse Département then it should be less than a 3-hr drive for you!
In case any of you would like to attend and you need some information on practical arrangements or translation to French, I am happy to help.
Maybe see you in Melun on Jun 9th. It certainly will be a fun time.
Best regards
Hi Mates,
“55” refers to my year of birth, not my “département” which is 18!
I intend to go to Melun (180 kms North from my home) in June, and would be delighted to meet some of you. I guess you’ll gather around the few British trucks on show, but we still have 3 months to agree on meeting details.
Just hope the weather will be better than what it’s like these days!

A few pic’s would be good, especially if they’re “foreign”…
I’m a modelbuilder by trade and I’m mainly providing parts for other enthusiasts, so you might be a bit disappointed by what I do. But anyway, here’s my Flickr page. Plenty of “foreign” stuff though. I’m German, so the Brits are also foreign for me.
Thank you Barriers, I see now why you were so good ref the German lorry that PV83 (Patrick) posted up…I think that you will very useful in helping us with the older German wagons. So you design and make all the moulds of both cars and lorries to sell on to enthusiasts …in away, that’s a collection of classic vehicles, keeping them alive in miniature form, saves on space and a lot cheaper. !!!

Hello again Gentlemen
Dave/Fergie intends to join us as a visitor, and I helped him locate a nearby hotel, which still has some rooms available.

Definitely be there, saving my centimes as I type Mrs Fergie is also coming along, if she gets bored with lorries and lorry chat, there’s a chateau nearby so she’ll go have a butchers at that. Thanks to Dave Junior Davidoff for sorting out the hotel at Melun…
Be nice to meet up Froggy, sure we’ll find a RDV point, …the vin tent perhaps, it seems a long way off, but time flies…
An unexpected surprise this morning, with such a bunch of most interesting pictures! The fun-fair truck parked in front of “l’Optique Moderne” is registered in Italy; I’d even say Lancia.
What about the blue RHD truck with the split windcsreen? Probably Italian too, and I’d say Fiat 690 N2. Anyway, thanks for that very good way of starting a day!
Froggy, Fiat for sure, the RHD and white steering wheels, so common in the sixties and seventies…not sure of the model but you’re probably right, between you and Barreious we’ve found a couple of more enthusiasts who know what they’re talking about… unlike me, who just post the pics, and get most things wrong… anyway, glad ithey made your day !!

Dave and Davidoff,
Could you pm me the Hotel as Angie and I would like to attend, do you think I am too late to get an entry for my little Renault Galion ? I will have it ready by then.

Patrick,
The Italians couldn’t catch Dave and I in a car they had to use the chopper !!

Indeed, I want to know everything about all oldies posted on this thread, but have no credit for my knowledge. I was already a truck enthusiast when I was a small child (7-8), and used to wait at the only traffic lights on on my way back from school, truck-spotting. That was in Boulogne (France, dept 92). Then, during the 8 years I spent in London (1965-73), I discovered the world of British trucks, so different from what I was used to.
It much later happened that Jean-François Colombet, Charge-Utile’s chief-editor for over 20 years, was the boy-friend of one of my brother’s best friends. Of course we became friends, and he taught me most of what I now know about trucks. Unfortunately, he’s no longer member of C-U’s staff, but I hope he’ll be there in Villaroche-Melun in June.
Unlike you, I have very few pictures, and am always happy with all the posts concerning pre-1970 European trucks!

Hi R & A…Wow, that would be good, the hotel is the IBIS at Melun. Dave junior will fix you up with the details for showing your camionette, I know he’s busy, so might be prudent to PM or mail him.

That stirs the memory fergie , in the early 50s my dad worked for a firm that refurbed the half tracks , stripped the bodies off and put on a hopper body for lime spreading . There were dozens of them in a field near us . A lot of them still had the aa guns mounted minus breech blocks and it was quite common to find loose ammunition in the lockers . Ye gods if they found one shell now there would be a 2mile exclusion zone , then they just stacked them aside until there were enough for the army to collect . More ramblings of an ageing mind for you , Dave

I knew those Maggie’s could “fly” but that the Italians would needed a helicopter to keep pace…wouldn’t have dreamed of it
On the other hand, reason why’ve they used a helicopter was probably because when in hot persuit the car broke down…this being a Alfa Giulietta…
