Fergie47:
Thanks for posting all those old pics Patrick…

You know, of all these specially build heavies, including all the modern vehicles, I recon you’ve a job to beat those 8 wheeler Willems, they look just right, and capable, and if they look right , they probably did the job well…maybe Froggy or Michal with their connections might find out from an old driver what they were really like to drive…did looks decieve I wonder…

Cheers mate!
It’s an absolute pleasure, and a privilege

Was thinking the same thing about those “grand” Willeme’s, now I do tend to have a soft spot for Scammell’s, but those French counterparts are marching up on that list as well…
Maybe it’s an idea to post pic’s of every 8 wheeler that left the Willeme premises as they seem to be favoured by just about every HH firm at the time…

About supplementing your pension, nowt wrong with that mate, but the way you get things done, you’re even cheaper than the EE mobsters :unamused:

Nice found Robert!

Does raise the question though, is it a restoration project…or is it left to decay…

Probably the latter…

Now, there is a full-size coulour picture of our mystery truck. It should be a Faun L 1212/45

No Cigar Patrick…Fergies had it for transporting that turbine blade on time and well within budget!!

It’s OK Pierre, I’ll think of him at Xmas… when I’m puffing away… :unamused:

Never would have thought you’d had “management capabilities” Pete…so who’s side are you on mate…

As for Fergie, me mum tought me not to get into argument with the ladies, the retarded and the elderly…
You just choose in which category you fit in mate
Puff away me old geezer…

Nice black and white shot in France. These wine tankers were regular visitors to England in the early '70s. Robert

Talked into it…doesn’t that how the female species operate as well
You’re spot on though about getting the wages into your account…by all means…maybe it’s not that bad either, you can keep warm all day, while I nearly lost my manly parts due to the frost this morning :unamused:

No carol singers or others at my door mate, I’ve trained the neighbour’s dogs quite well… Bah Humb…er…hang on…

pv83:
At first glance I’d thought that it was your wagon Davidoff

For a split second I thought so too Patrick!

The exact same vehicle.
But then the département is not the correct one (42 vs mine which was registered in 63 - Puy de Dôme), and mine doesn;t have a spare wheel on the right side but the diesel tank (too small btw - 400 litres only).

Nice series of pictures on ce again. Keep 'em coming!

Now, for heavy haulage fans, there’s a 1939 Berliet GPE 4, initially produced as an army tank carrier/wrecker; 25 were made before WW II. Powered by a 14 litre Berliet 6-cyl diesel.

The same truck after the War, used as a HH tractor. 4 of them survived the War

Now restored by the “Fondation Berliet” near Lyon.

And as I photographed it at the Fondation in 1998. One shaft for each driven axle, plus a third one for the winch.

Absolute cracking stuff there Froggy!
Cheers for posting mate

Total change of make and period with this Scammell I just received by mail. It’s said it’s a S24, but I’ve never seen such a cab before! Moreover, the second axle looks both steered and driven. The poor resolution of the picture doesn’t help, but it may be badged “V8” at the bottom of the radiator grille.

Could it be an Australian model, built from bits and pieces from various manufacturers as they still do over there?

I think You’l find its a maltese conversion,one of our 6x4s,went to
Malta, but it was on trilex wheels.

Posted this some time back on another thread, 1982 Scammell S24 Malta Hybrid 8X4 Tipper, ■■■■■■■ 350… Maltese ingenuity :sunglasses: .

Just had a look back and this is the same wagon before it’s conversion.

Thanks guys! Was this model (the initial 6x4 one) ever commercialised in UK?

Never saw a S24 as a tipper before…so that’s already quite something, but to make it even more “special” that 2nd steering axle seems to be a DAF product, it’s got a DAF wheelhub…if its not, it’s time to go to spec savers yet again… :unamused:

None the less, quite clever piece of construction and “see what parts we’ve got in the shed” of those Maltese lads eh

Back to Berliet now; I thought I already had posted pictures of this unfortunately defunct truck on this thread, but can’t find them. A GBO converted into a 8x4 by a Corsican shovelling contracter. Probably due to the cost of its transfer onto the Continent from Corsica, its owner coulnd’t find a buyer and it was recently screpped.

That explains why I was mislead by the different 2nd axle hub and wheel, and thus thought it was a driven axle.
