Could some of you tell me what’s this truck, at the very end of the video? Looks like a Scammell, but sounds like a 2-stroke engine; GM/Detroit powered? Thanks!

Hi Froggy,
Its an FTF mate, made in the Netherlands and used the same motor panel cab as Scammell

So I was only half wrong! What about its engine; 2-stroker?

Froggy55:
Thanks Michel for that beautiful picture which shows the GPM just restored. When was that? Do you have more information about what’s likely to happen to it now? Does anyone feel concerned about its future?

If I had the resources to preserve it, I would rather have it in a shed than yet another F88 or British wagon. I like the rare, exotic foreign vehicles. Maybe that is the solution to the French laissez-faire attitude to vehicle preservation- the vehicles may be bought by British, Swiss and German collectors.

Certainly a brilliant idea! Poor France; after its industry going to the Chinese, will it see its vintage vehicles going abroad too? Consterning mediocrity…

I certainly do feel concerned for its future.
Plated 73 which is Savoie, i.e. Not too far from where I live. If someone knows where it is I would quite happily jump in my car and gor for a look-see.

Michel - any idea of the owner and their interest in seeing this vehicle surviving?

If only to take (and share on here) some pictures…

Museums house many vehicles belonging to individuals- I wonder if Fondation Berliet would accommodate it? Other than that, could a group of concerned enthusiasts, with the collaboration of the owner, rent a shed together, everyone involved being granted some rights over driving/showing the lorry occasionally?

It’s an 8v92 just going by the sound of it.Like many/most specialist vehicle manufacturers FTF were big users of Detroit power in the day.

I know some of the people involved with the Fondation Berliet. All of them ex-Berliet employees.
I am sure they would be receptive especially in case of such a rarity. In fact they have more vehicles than are on display in the public part of the museum - many awaiting restoration.

Let’s first see if We can somehow locate this motor…

I concur with Froggy, cheers for posting that Davidoff!

Can’t wait to see that big red Scammell again…

No worries Gentlemen. Honestly I can’t wait. I really hope it will happen.

By the way, who of you visited the last edition in 2014?

Yup, I was present, one of the best weekends I’ve ever had

Aye, two stroke “screaming” Detroit Diesel, most of them were fitted with an Allison 'box. Haven’t seen that cab conversion before though…

Cheers, Patrick

Its plate is a fake but nevertheless it should be in Chambéry (Savoie), at the Bourgey-Montreuil premises, where it was pictured in 2014, seriously decaying again. Certainly, Michel could tell more…

Think we’ve just missed one another…aye, did spoke briefly with the Scammell (Terry?) man, and on the last day with those gents who came over in that p-cabbed Scanny.

That’s right. Terry’s his name, from Dover. And the P-cabbed Scanny is Neil’s from Scunthorpe. He was there with his dad.

Shame we didn’t meet. Was a cracking time and very sociable.

Here’s Terry’s Crusader, along with Glenn’s F12

And here is Neil’s beautifully restored P-cabbed Scanny alongside mine

All to be repeated next year!

Proper camion stew.

Not only some great French and foreign steel on display but also very nice and sociable times.

Your Scania 142 is rather nice too. I remember when that was the king of the road.

Aye, very nice and tidy wagon Davidoff! How did you managed to purchase one? And was a lot of work needed to get it as tidy as it is now?

I’ve found some random pic’s of heavy haulage, dates back to the 80’s and early 90’s, interesting to see how differently everybody thought to get the job done, some used a set of bogies, others (extendable) drawbar units, while others just opted for a stepframe trailer…or a special designed rigid…
The trailers themself are quite different to what the norm is nowadays…really shows the diversity quite well I reckon.
'appy days indeed

Cheers, Patrick
