0I’ve seen plenty of twin spires in France over the years, but that one seems to be in a small rural town. Is it local to you Fergie?
Not a number plate in sight to give a clue.Looks like Chartres cathedral to me…
And that roadsign on the RN 10 further up the page: I must have driven past that hundreds of times! Robert

Not a number plate in sight to give a clue.Yes Robert, it’s Chartres…by the look of the cars I’d guess maybe late '50’s or early '60’s.?
Thanks for the replies. On closer inspection; the spires are not the same so it must be Chartres.

It’s a 1950/53 Berliet GPM 10W. Still belonging to Bourgey-Montreuil (member of the Calberson Group), it was totally restored 10-15 years ago for some anniversary (I think). Unfortunately, and stupidly as it so often happens im my country with vintage vehicles, it since then was abandoned in a backyard where its rusting again… No doubt, we’re in France! Fitted with 10.7 litres 135 bhp Berliet engine + 5 x2 speed gearbox; max speed 65 kph.

What an utter shame that is Froggy, haven’t they got any feelings towards the “mobile heritage”…
Unfortunately, there are very few preserved commercial vehicles in France (trucks and buses/coaches), compared to UK, Germany or Switzerland! This particular one is probably the only survivor of a production of 133 Berliet GPM, and it was granted a complete renovation; mechanics and bodywork. Moreover, it has an unique sleeper cab, much wider and more comfortable than the standard pre-WW II cab Berliet offered on this model.
Since then, its owners didn’t even bother in s heltering it from rain; a total shame, as you say!

Not only a shame but most sadly as well…
I’m glad I’ve attended the what appears to have been the last edition of “le locamotion en fete”, not likely such “stunners” will be seen in the nearby future then…

Well gentlemen it seems a new edition of la Locomoton en fête is in the making.
Here is the email I got from the organisers some weeks ago
Good morning dear collectors,
after two years of absence, we envision a 23rd edition of the Locomotion en Fête for 10 and 11 June 2017. This new edition will have no place on the usual site of Cerny, but on the airfield of Melun Villaroche (77 ) counting on your participation.
Sincerely
So watch this space. If it is indeed happening i will participate, as will my British mates Glenn and his red Volvo F12, Terry and his Crusader, and Neil and his 92.
More to follow as things sharpen up. I will keep you all updated
At last great news from France! Melun is some 2 hours drive North from where I live, and I’ll certainly be there! Thanks Davidoff!
I concur with Froggy, cheers for posting that Davidoff!
Can’t wait to see that big red Scammell again…

No worries Gentlemen. Honestly I can’t wait. I really hope it will happen.
By the way, who of you visited the last edition in 2014?
I was there in 2012 for the last time. Let’s cross fingers until next June…
To help us to wait, here’s a very good video on the last Gaydon show, with many “so British” trucks including Commer, Foden and Mammoth Majors…

Good stuff!
I’ve just watched the Part 2 of the Gaydon 2016 video

Could some of you tell me what’s this truck, at the very end of the video? Looks like a Scammell, but sounds like a 2-stroke engine; GM/Detroit powered? Thanks!
Hi Froggy,
Its an FTF mate, made in the Netherlands and used the same motor panel cab as Scammell
Thanks Michel for that beautiful picture which shows the GPM just restored. When was that? Do you have more information about what’s likely to happen to it now? Does anyone feel concerned about its future?
