I feel like a dying breed being a British driver. How long do you think it will be before I am extinct. I have 25 years before I retire but think I will not make another 5 years driving with all the EU workers. My place takes them on now with out even advertising the job as they don’t defect wagons and run bent when needed. And it seems they all get motorbike licence when they convert to uk licence but tell me they did not do motorbike licence in ■■■ land. It’s about time we stand up for us the British driver like the petrol protest rolling road blocks who’s in [emoji12]
Now listen here Desypete…changing your username doesn’t work.
I will be out of a job when they stop smashing ■■■■ out of the vehicles . until then im hanging on
But because they are from soviet countries they are much better at sticking together .
In a certain bed factory in wellington they have established a closed shop . in the unlikely event of management recruiting a non russian speaker they complain he is a racist and he promptly gets the sack
Also the local paper never carries any job vacancies but in cities east of berlin they do
Thats jobs in the factory , not driving jobs , im talking of to be clear

If there had been a trucker’s forum in Holland about 20 years ago it would have read something like
I feel like a dying breed being a Dutch driver, all these bloody Brit drivers coming over here taking our jobs etc etc.
I reckon the running bent and non defects part of your post is a mixture of hearsay, driver talk, prejudicial perception and pure ■■■■■■■■ to be honest.
If it is true what you say about your own firm, I personally would not want to work for them anyway, apart from anything else they will not last running like that, and again if it IS true, and it bothers you so much, take steps yourself to sort it.
I wouldn’t worry mate 25 years is a long time.
Yes im sure the dutch have much reason to complain . i worked there for 10 years in 80s and 90s .
If i worked for 26 weeks i could claim 75% of my wages for the other 26 weeks of the year thru Detam . plus holiday stamps from the union .
This is not the case anymore !
Since the euro their wages halved and costs doubled .
.
Thats where this country is headed .
A on there licence doesn’t mean they have a full motorcycle licence, they would need a CBT to use it as a learner, don’t ask me why, but that’s how it is.

Not sure I follow your logic there. If the introduction of the Euro was the cause of halving wages and doubling costs then how is that going to affect a country that does not use the Euro nor planning to change it’s currency?
Care to explain?
.

And this weeks prize for most blatant attempt to start yet another foreign driver bashing thread goes to…(drum roll)…jimjam!
Yea OK, we heard you the first time

Not sure what happened there
Drivers will soon be paid minimum wage, the wages will decrease every year until then. After-all it’s unskilled labour now since the implementation of automatic gearboxes and sat-navs. Anyone can do it!
Where do I begin with this one? You could blame the minimum wage, where a Bulgarian can earn his weekly wage in a day here, you could blame the fact they will pretty much do anything without argument, bit I think the real cause is being part of the EU, where workers from countries with third world living costs are free to come to the west and line their pockets. I think the end is in site soon though, as the countries in the eastern block will soon be at a breaking point with labour, and we’ll be stumping up towards Eu subsidies to drag their wages up. They’ll all drift back then. But I suppose it’s no different to the 70s and 80s when the English labour all went to Germany and Holland to earn a lot more than here
Harry Vos from Oss Holland used to employ a lot of Brit home based drivers and opened a depot in Scotland which has now gone. The last time I was in Zeebrugge about 5 yrs ago I learned their drivers at that depot were mostly Romanian double manned, no more Brits or Belgians, I was told the two drivers combined wages equated to the wage I was on when I was there.
However you can not blame the drivers, there or in the UK, it’s the companies you should be aiming your grievances at if it bothers you so much.
The only way to sort it out, would be for the EU to allow some sort off quota system based on passport nationality, but as the head honcho’s at the EU, see freedom off movement as a core principle I’m not going to hold my breath
I would say that operators should be forced to pay the minimum wage off the country off registration off the vehicle, but the NMW is poverty pay anyway. So that don’t work. lets face it, we just have to prove we’re better

That’s the thing though mate, it is not necessarily always the case that Brit drivers are better drivers than EE drivers is it, …don’t believe all the hype and driver-spouted b/s

I think you’ve made a great case for the entire indigenous Brit populaton to give up and allow the slavic master race to take over.In which case they will then show us how to make this country as great as their own.

Yet so many people fail the medical and test so obviously anyone can’t do it. And given what I see out and about there are many who can barely get from A to B and they usually end up on the dole.
The only reason it’ll end up being minimum wage is because of people with the attitude you have.

The vast majority of eastern european drivers I have come across have been completely and utterly incompetent but most EE drivers also seem to be quite young compared to British drivers so maybe its more a lack of experience issue than it being because they’re from EE. There’s a young Polish driver at a pallet network depot I go to who has hit pretty much everything there is. Conversely there’s a couple of eastern european ones around my age at Howdens who are just fine with a good standard who just get on with the job and never seem to have an issue.
