Sat Nav

I need to buy a cheap Sat Nav that will be good in UK and Norway

Anyone got any recommendations for a cheap one?

European road atlas. Sat naves are for people who should not be driving for a living.

Is norway in Europe?

I used to think the same Pat, but I would not be without my (basic car type) sat nav now.
I ran for about 2 months without one recently, and I did miss it tbh.

Have a look at Navmii GPS apps for your smartphone, they do both uk & Norway and many others in between. They’re also free

But he is a driving god. I’ve got one in the wagon somewhere. It’s there if I need to dust it off in case I get sent somewhere obscure. Like England for example.

Plenty of them out there on ebay, Amazon, Trucktables,

If you got a smart phone you can use apps and google maps, from what Ive read on some threads dont worry about buying a road atlas, there old hat and will just sit you in locker at work… :grimacing:

Aponia for your phone maps are stored on your phone and about 50quid last time I looked for europe

Nokia HERE if you’ve an Android phone or even a tablet with GPS built in. Completely free and you can download maps of much of the world if you’ve the space. Certainly Europe is well covered.

Yes, just not, wisely, in the eu

Anyone bought any of the cheap ones recently and can reccomend a particular one for UK?

And a road atlas is for people who are still living in the 1970s and terrified of a bit of technology. There’s nothing wrong with using satnav as long as you are using it along side some common sense.

I think that they are all the same, the cheap ones any way.The charging port some times break though.Even if you do know where you are going it gives you a diagram of the bends and junctions as they come up.I would not want to be with out one.

You’ll not go far wrong with this…

Had mine a year now and it’s spot on,a lot of people use them on here.
They are also on eBay but slightly higher in price to cover eBay fees.

Bit of a sweeping generalised statement there mate. :unamused:
I use a standard sat nav in conjunction with a bridge map to check the route,… works for me.
I certainly aint terrified of technology :unamused: …more can’t be arsed with a lot of it.
I just do not NEED to be routed to bloody astronaut standard, and certainly do not need to be led by the hand by technology and told every ■■■■ potential hazard that may or may not be in front of me.
Also I aint stupid enough to pay in excess of 300 quid to buy something I do not need. Now if the boss bought it for me…(.ok tbh I more than likely would not use it still)
As I said before, if I needed that level of guidance I wouldn’t do the ■■■■ job.

Every sat-nav post has a tendency to haplessly skate into into a pro/anti digression. Use the search function James, and save us from the groundhog day inevitability of this subject.

Cheers. Only been driving the trucks since June last year so still a newbie but have been driving my trunk run and any general haulage work without a sat nav. I know i can follow road signs and diversions but the low bridges and emergency routes like last night when M6 was closed at preston would be more comfortable with a cheap nav.

I was sceptical at first with them being cheap so didn’t buy one, just used a normal car tomtom, then my mate sold me his for £30 as he no longer had a need for it and tbh I was very impressed, never seen me wrong and I do multi drop in a class one 9-14 drops a day round busy city’s like Birmingham,Manchester and Leeds and it’s always seen me right.
Another mate has a £350 snooper and he said that my one is just as good and he wishes he had got one and saved himslef £280

Cheap or expensive, the mapping cant really vary much from one to another, but the quality of internal components of a snooper must surely be much sturdier and of a higher spec than those of cheap units which flood the market. Let us not forget that top of the range snoopers also incorporate TV, DAB, Play MP3/Movies, Photo viewer, Phone bluetooth, and punch all of this straight through the cabs stereo system if wanted. None of this comes for free.

When you mention the map download pal, it’s probably worth stating that the Europe map is 10Gig.
Resulting in you basically needing a 16GB memory card installed in your phone…
Wish they did a smaller UK map download!
