Sat Nav

The eu map is about 2-3 fb for most truck apps

Cheap or expensive, the mapping cant really vary much from one to another, but the quality of internal components of a snooper must surely be much sturdier and of a higher spec than those of cheap units which flood the market. Let us not forget that top of the range snoopers also incorporate TV, DAB, Play MP3/Movies, Photo viewer, Phone bluetooth, and punch all of this straight through the cabs stereo system if wanted. None of this comes for free.

True but,for say £350 you could buy one Snooper,or 6 cheap sat navs.
If the cheap ones last 2 years each that’s enough for 12 years…would a £350 snooper last 12 years,I can’t see that maybe 5-7 at most.
Granted of you want the extras such as DAB,TV ect then you have to pay the premium but as a standalone sat nav the value is to go for the cheap ones imo as you say the mapping itself is almost identical in all sat navs.

Nokia HERE if you’ve an Android phone or even a tablet with GPS built in. Completely free and you can download maps of much of the world if you’ve the space.

When you mention the map download pal, it’s probably worth stating that the Europe map is 10Gig.
Resulting in you basically needing a 16GB memory card installed in your phone…
Wish they did a smaller UK map download!

They do. United Kingdom is 693.4MB. Select Europe and then it gives you the option to download the whole region or individual countries.

When you select United Kingdom you can even download England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales separately.

Ahh, I didn’t see that the link opened a sub-menu…
My bad, but it’s not very clear and i wasn’t going to risk kicking off a 10Gig download…

The Europe truck map for Tom Tom is around 2.6gb.

I happen to have the latest version on my pc along with the Navcore.

I also happen to have one of the latest UK and Ireland car version as well.

Just saying like.

Ken.

There isn’t a 10gb download that would be world wide

Another mate has a £350 snooper and he said that my one is just as good and he wishes he had got one and saved himslef £280

He could have spent the money on whiskey, cigars, and wild wild wimmin’

There is a 10GB download for Europe. Its not the EU, its the continent of Europe. Download the app onto your phone, go to download maps and see for yourself.

Africa is 2.063GB
Asia is 6.398GB
Australia is 909MB
Europe is 10.946GB
North& Central America is 7.207GB
South America is 2.211GB

Guess it depends on the amount of data. HERE maps includes satellite views as one of the overlays and it also stores information about things like businesses such as shops and restaurants which can be used offline which may explain the size. For example offline I can search for things like Halfords or McDonalds. Its not just the mapping data for the roads and postcodes.

I’m on windows phone so it’s integrated in to the map app

Turn-by-turn navigation is incorporated into the Google Maps app on Android, and the standard Map app on iPhone too.

But it’s not true off line mapping unlike the here app to be honest get a truck app if it’s for work

It’s offline mapping - but not offline navigation.

Maps isn’t here drive gives navigation on any win 10 device the navigation is natively in the map app

Does it do navigation on a downloaded map though? The android app needs to be online to do the turn-by-turn stuff.

Yes if offline it gives you navigation this is the map application in windows 10 though not here maps you need here drive for that

Why?
This ain’t the olden days, this is the future…satnavs all the way from here buddy

Sat navs are quite good but they cant do time travel. This is not the future ,this is the present.
