Sat nav with Traffic info

Whats the best one , Do any of the cheap chinese ones tell you when a road is closed or there is congestion ahead so you can use your loaf and come off the motorway , or do you have to buy a brand name like tomtom , garmin etc

Tomtom - spot on. Ridiculously accurate

Tomtom Trucker 6000. Spot on.

Tomtom struggles to accurately predict the length of some traffic delays for me. I’ll join the back of the queue expecting it to be ten minutes or so, then it turns out to be twenty.

However, on the whole Tomtom Trucker 6000 does a pretty decent job for navigation and traffic. A few poor recommendations ended up getting me stuck in some dodgy places, and the odd incorrectly labelled road name has had a similar effect, but I’d much rather have it for company than not.

The beauty of live traffic is it can help planning for breaks. If you know there is a jam further up the motorway then pull over for a 15 minute break, and by the time you set off again and get there the jam may have cleared. You’ve then got your 15 in early and can save time later in the day. Happy days.

Has anyone got a tomtom trucker 6000 to sell

Agree with tomtom comments, it’s unerringly accurate.

Previously had a snooper, which was ■■■■.

As I have stated many times. sat navs are a waste of your money, if you have a smart phone just save money, look at the map that should be on the phone, go to settings and click on traffic, the map will show the roads in red if there is a delay, green if everything is running smoothly. The map also have built in navigation as I have also said.
Don’t waste you money and time on satnavs. Also if you download a traffic alert app on the phone it will give you a warning well ahead of time even when the map is not active.

Yes but I have my phone mounted on the dash right in front of me, it just takes one tap on the alert symbol, the message comes up with the location shown on the map, I don’t read the message, I glance at the location of the tailback on the map.

I’ve noticed if you Google some places on maps it now has a truck route which someone has added. Pretty smart.

I use Garmin 770 and I’ve no real issues with it. Tells me when road is closed and diverts me and tells me when traffic is high.

Tom Tom live brilliant if it says traffic jam is 3 min’s then it is bang on it also tells how long jam is in miles excellent bit of kit

One tap is all you need to be prosecuted by the rozzers in the UK. It is outright illegal to interact with a smartphone whilst driving as I understand it, but with a satnav it is a more grey area and they would need to prove you were driving without due care and attention.

Also, with so many width, weight, height and nimby restrictions on such a small island, not to mention so many roads simply unfit for heavy goods vehicles, a truck specialist satnav has significant advantages over a free smartphone based navigation system. Furthermore, being aware of the limited speed of a truck, and traffic conditions on the recommended route, a specialist system is far more accurate with predicted arrival times which enables better planning, which means a less stressful day. Many road closures are also featured in live traffic so the recommended route will be varied accordingly. I’ve not seen Google being so clever, even with all its traffic data.

If money is everything, yes use a free smartphone app. You get what you pay for, and in my opinion the advantages are worth the price.

So the tom tom trucker go 6000 sat nav with live traffic info is the best on the market and worth paying a few hundred quid for ,
I am sure most people would agree with that
yeah yeah you can use paper maps and all that , but surely using the technology available makes the job so much easier

I have not had an issue with the traffic function on the TT, but the routing is far from perfect, i have been using the trucker 6000 for 2 years & have learnt to use it as a very rough guide as the expression " around the houses " comes to mind so be warned.

It has refused to give me a route to some delivery/collection address (farms) as no suitable route available

This is not relevant to Pat as he’s not in the UK

Live Traffic ain’t all it’s cracked up to be…if the info doesn’t get ‘put out’, you simply won’t get it…it’s as reliable as the matrix signs!

That’s exactly my point. What works for Mr Hasler in the US may not translate over here. There are lots of differences between US and UK truck driving which may make other opinions equally valid.

I got the garmin 770 truck and I have to say it is pretty poop. The amount of times it tries to make me do a horseshoe type route into a place is stupid. I paid £220 they retail at £380 I’m going to try and swap for a tomtom I think
