Sad stobarts fan in clapped out van A 180

Harry Monk:
As I see it, all hobbies are pointless. Collecting stamps, watching football, building model windmills out of matchsticks. There is no logic or profit in any of them, that’s the whole point of a hobby, to take time out from life’s obligation and do something entirely as an end in itself.

Personally, I buy, restore and sell old vending machines and seaside arcade amusement machines. There is absolutely no logic to doing this, not least since they operate on currency which hasn’t been in circulation for over 40 years and never will be again. If somebody else wants to sit in a lay by crossing lorry numbers off of a checklist then although I can’t see the attraction of that myself, I wouldn’t say it made them “sad” in any way.

You’ve just moved to sub zero on the cool wall with that hobby H.

Im not so sure, a shed full of them may come to some cash in a decade or two, might be the next cool thing to have :sunglasses:

What ever your views are on them they are dedicated
One ( young lad 20,s) left his home near our old depot at alcester at 2 am to go up to leeds to get some fleet no,s/ pics,he then arrived at malton where some trucks were based to get a specific truck,I looked round yard and couldn’t see it so said I’d help him out by ringing our yard to see if they could see where truck was too on tracker,it was at nwk for service,so he headed off too nwk, when I got back at 17.30 he was in yard taking pics etc,we had a brief chat and he said he was now off too our old site at Corby too get some more numbers pics.
I’d guess it would be very late evening when he got back to near alcester, some time / money( fuel) he’s spent that day ,dedicated or mad I don’t know, not what your normal 20 yr old would be up too on sat day/ evening, but he was a really nice friendly lad.
As others have said we all have past times that we enjoy that others think are barmy.
When I can I often leave too go from Grantham down too bristol to watch rovers play, all day Saturday,300 mile round trip, sense would be too travel 30 mile and watch forest ,but when it comes too certain things, love of your football team/ stobart spotting all sense goes out the window.

In the UK in an attic, I have a bag of the old tokens that went in those machines, my dad worked for a company that made them in Hainault, Essex. in the 60’s. they had the hole in the middle and I think are called cherry Token or similar they fit nearly all the machines at Southend Sea front.

The midget died. The other hasn’t been recently seen as far as I know.

My mate dug the grave with his JCB; £10 from Toys R Us.

That made me laugh , nice one
