sadly the recession has hit harold quite hard and he has put all but 2 wagons off the road.he hasnt given up like some ,just wating for it to pick up again.all the units are parked up in his small yard in the middle of longhope, all looking nice and shiny.bob

.

that was one of georges dads wagons,he had a huge fleet in the 50’s/60’s .he got swallowed up by brs .he had quite a few of those .a few have survived into preservation. george read was one of the brothers, george m read was his son. the family was quite big…henry read starting it all.then his sons, john, henry ,george, fred, ivor, richard, harold and david.then you have phillip (son of harold) david (son of david snr)and not forgetting richard jnr. bob.

that picture was taken at merrin end garage.it was a backload from london going to south wales, weighed nearly 19 tons and had a 10’ overhang :unamused: . merrin end garage was to become the mitcheldean branch of brs, then free foresters transport (run by andrew edwards of edwards transport).now it is a crappy housing estate! bob.
