S walker transport lives

switchlogic:
Good old Trucknet, never lets good news go unpunished

I was thinking the same… The glass is always half EMPTY! :unamused:

I hope Walkers have got over their previous problems and wish them luck.

But you have to wonder why Walkers are always advertising for drivers on the Job centre site, unless a company is expanding at a quick rate, constantly advertising for drivers isn’t a sign of a good company to work for in my opinion.

They seem to advertise for drivers more often than a lot of agencies I know :astonished:

I was asked to go there by an agency a couple of years ago, I turned it down because I didn’t like the rate or the £15 night out money.

Quinny:
How come a company can revive itself with a £1m worth of new trucks? Obviously on lease.

I’m surprised that any leasing/finance company would touch those behind the name, given that they were in trouble before. Admittedly they do look nice, and good luck to them, but they have been in trouble once…

And they say there’s no money in transport.

Ken.

Owned/Leased/Borrowed/Found, it makes little difference. The drivers are still employed and have great gear to run around in so good for them.

Saw one on the M6 a week or so ago before it had been sign written and it looked great.

Good luck to them one thing I do no for all the doom merchants is banks lease company’s do not lend money or lease trucks without sufficient evidence there gona get there money back so I’m sure there doing well enuff to fund all that kit

Spoke to one in Corley at the pumps a couple of year back & he seemed happy enough.

Yep they are leased of course, with r &m i believe. That however is not the point, we, as drivers, have worked bloody hard to pick us back with steve at the helm.
As far as the wages go in answer to previous question, myself personally rarely drop below £500 a week mon to fri, take home. As high as 700.

are you boys still on percentage?

If my memory serves me correctly, to clear£500 a week you would need to work 6 days a week, sometimes 7! Maybe I was on a different pay structure.
I will never understand why drivers have to inflate their wage when talking to others. People are asking genuine questions here, why mislead them?
The problem with percentage is, you, as a driver never know for sure what the vehicle you are driving actually earns.
Grace…

Umm… I agree with the thoughts on trucks earnings. It depends on whether you trust the people doing the sums… Not sure you can in this case!

You can’t trust any employer that pays you a percentage of truck earnings to be honest…

Plus makes it way too easy for the favourites to be looked after and the others stitched up…

that would depend on who you are willing to work for!
there is a local (to me) tipper firm that pays a percentage of earnings, ALL THE DRIVERS HAVE RATE SHEETS FOR ALL CONTRACTS so it can work for drivers! in fact the drivers are able to work their own wages out to double check if they so wish!
