I have spoken to a few S and K drivers on my European travels. I found them polite, helpful and at face value - happy. They didnt come across as putting up a “front” just to give the happy impression to me. Why would they?
The company - whatever the right or wrongs of their business ethos, have been in business for years, and are obviously successful in what they do.
I could give an appraisal of a well known Bulk haulier I used to work for. It would be based on my views combined with the knowledge of many, many drivers who have passed through the doors. I wouldnt say to people - dont go there, just be mindful of what you will both find, and be subjected to, in an attempt to paint a picture for a fellow drivers piece of mind.

.
Take a camera to photo all of your load in case of damage on arrival and money docked out of the wages to pay for damages .
Seriously??.. and the drivers agree to this??
as you and others on here well know if a load is properly restrained there will be no damage involved, I carry a camera -who doesn’t??- if the load is damaged on loading i take pictures, pretty obvious.
There is nothing in my contract that says i will be responsible for paying for any damages that are not my fault.

Ok, so does that mean you pay for damages that are deemed as your fault?
If so, surely that is what Goods in transit insurance is for.
I have made a couple of balls ups in my time and have not been expected to pay, nor would I anyway.
btw mate, for the record, I have no probs or dislike for SK, just asking in the spirit of the thread.

didn’t think or I hope infer you had, I was just responding to your comment, as you say, in the spirit of the tread.
I suppose in fairness if the damage is proved to be the drivers fault then he perhaps should be liable for the damage??
But certainly the driver is not automatically responsible for damaged loads as was inferred, (not by yourself I must say)

I phoned a couple of weeks ago,job sounded interesting until he told me the pay 375 per week and a bonus of what ever the truck earned,
You could maybe sell the other tag axle wheel ?, weekly bonus ?

Not sure I agree with that mate, it would be the thin end of the wedge.imo.
■■■■ happens, the driver is an employee, so the onus is on the operator who should be factoring such unforseens into the rate, and/or there are insurances for that purpose.
I can’t think of any other industry that does what you suggest.
Our lot tried to put it into new employment contracts, to pay the first 100 quid or so if truck was damaged.
I refused to sign it unless they withdrew that clause.
Needless to say a few more just went along with it and signed it…then moaned about it amongst themselves instead of directly to the appropriate persons.
