Rural roads cut to 40mph

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18840110

OK… I’m cancelling the Ferrari.

what we need is less legislation, not more.
get rid of all speed limits.

Paid by the hour, so not bothered.

I have lived in a rural area all my life.I support the idea of cutting some of the speeds on rural roads to 40mph,especially the single track unclassified roads, where some drivers travel as if their arse is on fire.

So what if people die ■■■■ happens thats life.

What they really mean is let’s put a totally stupid speed limit of 40 mph on roads that have been subject to a 60 mph limit for years so we can prosecute more drivers and get more money coming in from fines. :imp: :imp: :unamused:

That’s a similar type of logic as they used around here on roads like the A24 and A 29 where a 70 and 60 mph limit were ok even with a bit on top of that but the bikers like using them at 100 mph + so the council then use that as an excuse to put stupid 50 mph limits on dual and single carriageways.Lowering the speed limit doesn’t make any difference to the way in which the idiots drive so all we’ve got now is bikers still doing the same type of speeds but everyone else now gets nicked for doing what was and should still be legal. :unamused:

They mean the variable speed limit sign, (the white one with the black diagonal stripe) means 60mph on a single carriageway road!
Which as professional truck drivers we all know means 40mph in a truck anyway right■■?

It actually meant de restriction sign at one time so no limit at all then they reduced it to national speed limit applies which means 60 mph for cars, which is what the story is about not trucks. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the rip off artists have now changed it all again to ‘variable limit applies’ set at whatever level the government finds brings in the most in fines. Not surprisingly 40 mph from 60 will probably earn them a fortune while giving the insurance companies a bit extra profit in surcharges on premiums too for all those extra points on every one’s licences. :imp:

It is not about being paid, it will also affect you going out for a Sunday carvery with your mum.

The problem in the UK is that we only have 5 different speed limits, but there are many different types of roads.

I live in a rural area and I want the speed limits to stay as they are. The villages are 30 or 40 and there’s ■■■■ all in-between. Blatting about on my bike is one of the few hobbies I’ve found time to do. If I want to take a corner too fast and kill myself then that’s my decision not anyone else’s.

So its all the fault of bikers ■■? And if I’m only doing 100 there’s summat wrong with the bike !!

A completely pointless exercise, in my opinion.

There was that apparently true story of the motorist trying to negotiate the M25 in thick fog, who rang the police to complain
that it was dangerous, as he had to drive at the posted 70 mph and couldn’t see where he was going.
While drivers can be that stupid, there is no hope.
Erecting a few thousand speed limit signs won’t make a blind bit of difference.

Speed limits are not a target and just as in the middle of a town 30 or even 20 mph can be
much too fast for the prevailing conditions, a narrow country lane with sharp corners and high hedges
cannot be done at 60 mph, regardless of whether that’s the limit or not.

I live in the countryside and every day you can see people driving too fast or too slow.
Also we are in a favourite area for the mature biker and most summer weekends one or more
kill themselves at some speed way above 60 mph.

There seems to be an obsession around here with cluttering lanes and B roads with speed limit signs,
I wish they would go back to their towns and cities and leave us alone.

Regards,
Nick.

unless, of course you kill someone else in the process.
After all, a biker or two gone only improves the gene pool.

Posts like these will do the haulage industries’ image the world of good.
In some places it’d be a good idea as there are many minor roads with national speed limit around here that in a car you’d need to be retarted to travel at that speed.

Good, it might stop some of the ■■■■ heads flying around back roads at breakneck speeds, only to come round a corner, meet me and crap themselves

But in general the logic of the authorities is more along these lines. It’s all about stupid limits put there with the intention of increasing the nick rate and the amount taken fines. :imp:

Exactly if they don’t give a zb about doing 120-140 mph in a 60-70 mph limit they won’t give a zb about doing it if they reduce it to 40-50 mph.But what it does do is gets anyone who wants to use a single or dual road at 65-80 mph with a car nicked (badly) with loads of points and maybe even a ban where they wouldn’t have been nicked before. :imp: :bulb:

Motorways are a different issue in which German limits should apply then we’ll see how fast the bikes can really go and keep going for v a decent car. :smiling_imp:
