Rural roads cut to 40mph

To leave Hereford and to reach the M50 (J2) I travel on the A438 to Ledbury, so called country road and go through a few 30mph zones. You would be surprised how many ■■■■■■■■■ overtake me even during school drop off/pick up times.

We all know the 40mph rule in places (A49) is a farce, but its the law, and like others have mentioned we/I get paid by the hour anyway , so whats the problem ? Yes the debate could be, I want to get home, but I,m on £13 an hour for 48 hours then its just below £20 after, would you speed :unamused:

The problem is it’s about roads which are subject to the national speed limit now being subject to ridiculous 30,40,and 50 mph blanket limits which criminalises everyone for using those roads as originally intended. No one is getting paid by the hour when they’re out driving their private car at a speed which was reasonable one day and suddenly a crime the next.

The national speed limit, (effectively around 55 mph on motorways,50 on duals and 40 mph on single carriageways) for trucks,is a totally different issue which in most cases is as stupid as the idea of cars being limited to the same type of speeds on many roads that were considered fine for use at around 60 and 70 mph for cars and which in most cases would also have been ok for use by trucks at around 50 and 60 mph. However instead of increasing truck speed limits to realistic levels the government have now decided to start imposing ridiculous limits on roads such as the example which I’ve posted for all traffic instead obviously with the intention of increasing the nick rate and getting more money in fines.

As for hanging the job out to get more wages on a paid by the hour basis. The fact is in many cases the guvnor gets paid by the mile and the less miles that get done during the day the less money is available to pay the wages and the overheads in which case don’t be surprised if in many cases it’s a choice of £7 per hour take it or leave it assuming the job can be made to pay at all. :unamused:

Excellent post Mr Carryfast!

What about a proposal for the Police and authorities to target poor driving instead of this as usual one track mind approach that speed is the be all and end all … :unamused:

Carryfast:
What they really mean is let’s put a totally stupid speed limit of 40 mph on roads that have been subject to a 60 mph limit for years so we can prosecute more drivers and get more money coming in from fines. :imp: :imp: :unamused:

This is the reason for this 40mph idea in a nutshell ^^^^^^^^^^^^

They need more money in the government coffers and the best way to get it is to put ridiculous limits on roads and then a money manufacturer up (speed camera). :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: ■■■■■.

PS to those that think it’s biker related …it isn’t… in fact with most of the average speed cams forward facing, us bikers can give them the finger…(not that I would your honour, ever!)

Exactly…but this would COST money and not MAKE THEM A FAT PROFIT…so they won’t ever do anything but talk about it…

It’s easy to measure speed (though not that easy to do it accurately) and even easier to hand out fines with a blurry picture and a threatening letter attached…

If ever speed cameras were banned, the interest in speeding would cease. They have nothing to do with road safety and everything to do with collecting tax… :unamused:

I ride bikes, drive lorries and cars, i know the risks of speeding, and except the consequences, what we need is less ■■■■■■■■ and more education of all drivers/riders. We as (professionals) have to sit for 7 hours 1 day a year to maintain the ability to do our jobs, but any dimwit can give an examiner a ■■■■■■■■ and hey presto they are legally aloud to wreak havoc on the roads we share. I think its all crap, and until the law changes on car/bike tests things just wont change.
Anyone noticed that along with the general standard of driving being so low, the driving by so called instructors is not much if any better?

To sit with the bikers, the rider has more of a sense of preservation than a farm cat. Very few speed through leafy 30mph villages, but they will honk it on on an open road, albeit twisty.

The biggest problem is too many people try to drive for the biker, you don’t need to, just follow the highway code, and maintain your course, don’t try to block us, pull over for us or signal us past, the rider will make his own mind up and stay alive.

That’s all great in theory but the problem is the ‘authorities’ just use the speed issue (especially that of the weekend bikers) as an excuse to impose those stupid limits that we’ve got here. It’s always been a case that fast car users or bikers with any sense have been brought up on the idea of if you want to open it up do it in the right places. But this idea is all about throwing that idea out with rest in which case it’s all about 20 mph limits being imposed more and more in town which is fair enough in many cases but 40 and 50 mph being seen as the acceptable threshold on those roads which fitted that description of the ‘right places’.

The fact is the control freak government doesn’t want anyone making up their own mind and it’s just a question as to wether the motive is all about making rural roads into lines of slow moving 40 or 50 mph traffic or wether they’re just out to make a few quid in fines etc by imposing stupid limits that they know many/most people won’t stick to.
