Running bent

There was a post on here about running bent in days gone by, just wondered in this modern day if you can still run bent. I can’t think of a way of fiddling a digital tacho and if there is a way of fiddling it I won’t be using it, I don’t even want to work the max legal hours!!!
And before anyone gets on there high horse if you know a way of running bent am ■■■■ sure VOSA does.
Just curious that’s all.

Drive for one company on digi and another on analogue

Ask the driver of any lorry with an Irish name on it… or with some unpronounceable East European name.

Magnet

What happens if you get stopped when driving on the analogue card and they want to see your digital card?

say you lost it that morning and then go past GO and collect your £200 fine lol

There’s running bent and running bent - 2 ends of the scale.

In my job I get to meet a lot of drivers and also work on quite a few company premises. I can’t believe how easy it is to get information from some people. The stupid ones. I sometimes meet some I reckon might be abusing the rules when needed but they are clever enough to hide it - or at least not brag.

I have come across companies where the bosses give their digital cards to drivers for when their time is up and one where they even paid a bonus if it was used. In all cases I know about it is where drivers have freely boasted about it so I am sure they’ll get caught. When you hear more than one driver from the same company telling similar stories there is probably something in it.

ultimately I don’t think a huge amount ‘run bent’ nowadays - just a good few. If there are 450,000 HGVs on the road there are probably just hundreds purposely running bent. Tens of companies rather than hundreds. And there always will be because it takes DVSA ‘years’ to close them down.

I think quite a few break the rules when the situation calls for it - I wouldn’t call that running bent - just getting the job done!! Mostly through stupidity and ignorance.

There a many English companies with Irish names, are you referring to them? Of course not. My lorry has an Irish name on it so why don’t you ask me you clueless idiot.

Thought there might have been something more sophisticated, like altering your digi card with a laptop, and forgive my naivety what can you do with a magnet apart from things you stick on your fridge etc.

I guess just drive the analogue one first. If you don’t get stopped leave it in the truck and crack on with the digi truck!

Sat watching a lot of drivers dispensing with their ‘night time never happened magnet’ last week near Koln. Many have a separate price of carpet so they don’t get dirty, or dirtier, when they lay on the catwalk.

That’s a pretty ignorant thing to say.

Do you need to have a Digi card by law ?
What if you only drive on analogue ?

No ! .

DVSA have access if you are a card holder though… obviously

The other day i went fishing with a magnet , and caught 5 Dover souls :grimacing:

Don’t think you do need a digi if all you drive is analogue but if you ever have to drive a truck with a digital taco then you can’t until you get one. Can’t use the Ive applied for one either if it’s your first

Driving a vehicle fitted with a digital tachograph, without a valid or defective driver card, could attract a fixed penalty of up to £200. - See more at: tachopak.co.uk/digital-tacho … dz326.dpuf

Isnt that what the "Print out " option is for

Only if you’ve got a lost/damaged card. If you’ve never had one you can’t drive a truck with a digital until you have got a card if it’s your first application

If you have a digi card and drive an analogue wagon you need to keep your digi card on you so they can check both, if you have not applied for a digi card you dont need it.
I drive an analogue and I have to keep my digi card with me in the wagon.

ok , appreciate your answer thanks  , amended my reply accordingly

No, but if you have a digicard you are required to carry it when driving analogue vehicles.

For an analogue tacho, there are a variety of ways to fiddle it. Simplest is to wind it forwards 12 hours when you run out of hours, then crack on. Wind it back 12 hours when you have the time to play with.

You can also short out one of the feed wires to earth (I won’t say which one) by cutting into the loom, which shows the vehicle at rest when it is moving, and I’ve seen some very sophisticated set-ups here, for example with the tacho wired through a cigarette lighter socket so that just pushing in the lighter kills the tacho.

These days, on some vehicles, you can put a strong magnet on the tacho sensor on the gearbox, although the authorities are very wise to this. I wouldn’t bother with any of it myself, 13 hours a day is more than enough for me, thank you!
